SONIC GESTURES 2019 er en lyd- og videoinstallasjon som består av seks synkroniserte videoer med fragmenterte bilder av gester og bevegelse. Installasjonen presenterer oss for et virtuelt kor av av babbling, hvisking, synging og lydlige former i stadig forandring.

Sonic Gestures ble først vist på Recombinant Media Labs (RML) i San Francisco april 2007. Der besto den av 10 synkroniserte videoer med fragmenterte bilder av gester og bevegelser samt 16 kanals kringlyd. Verket, som var bestilt og presentert av NexMap, ble laget som et sted-spesifikt verk spesielt designet for Recombinant Media Labs’ 360º video- og kringlydanlegg. 

Utstillingen er kommet i stand på inititativ av førsteamanuensis Tone Åse, Institutt for musikk, NTNU, i forbindelse med Pamela Z’s miniturné i Norge (april 2019). Prosjektet er et samarbeid mellom musikkteknologimiljøene ved NTNU, UiO og NMH.

Sound and video installation, 2007 - 2019

SONIC GESTURES 2019 is a video installation that consists of six frame-locked channels of video composed of fragmented gestural images with sound. The installation presents the audience with a virtual chorus of chattering, whispering, singing, and ever transforming sonic entities.

Sonic Gestures premiered in April 2007 at Recombinant Media Labs in San Francisco. Consisting of ten frame-locked channels of HD video composed of fragmented gestural images and 16 channels of audio. This piece, which was commissioned and presented by NexMap, was designed as a site-specific piece for the immersive 360º video and sound set-up at RML. For TEKS.Studio the installation is re-configured for six screens.

The exhibition is iniated by associate professor Tone Åse, Department of music, NTNU, in conjuction with Pamela Z’s Norwegian mini tour (April 2019). The project is  a collaboration between the music technology enviroments at NTNU – Norwegian University of Science and Technology, UiO – University of Oslo, and NMH – Norwegian Academy of Music.
