BCA Initiative - Feedback from the meeting on Wednesday 3rd April
Thank you to all the parents who attended our first BCA parents meeting. We are appreciative of your time and effort to open the conversation about Woodfield’s educational provision. There were a number of points expressed and different opinions shared regarding how to improve the progress and educational experience of our black Caribbean students.  All the feedback will be used to develop the initiative at Woodfield School and within Brent and increase the provision and opportunities on offer to all our students. This should reflect our population of students. Parents have asked for a follow up meeting so watch this space!
Kind Regards
Lawrence

Woodfield will be celebrating out multicultural community again. International Evening will take place on Wednesday 22nd May from 5pm-6.30pm. Easy Fundraising
easyfundraising turns your everyday online shopping into free donations for Woodfield School. How? Just start your online shopping first at easyfundraising, then shop as normal. The retailers will then make a small donation to say “thank you”. There is no cost to you, and you are not charged extra by the retailer. Purchases from Amazon, eBay, Argos, John Lewis and hundreds more retailers can help to raise money for the school to be spent on trips for pupils and equipment in the playground, for example.

Have a look at the video below. There is also an iPhone/iPad app and an android app which you can install once you've registered. Use the links below to install on your device.

If you use the Chrome browser, you can install an extension to get donation reminders if the retailer you are visiting is part of the scheme. Easy dot Peasy!

e-Safety update
Parents with younger children may find these resources helpful. Jessie & Friends is a series of three animations provided by NCA-CEOP. The animations follow the adventures of Jessie, Tia and Mo as they navigate the online world, watching videos, sharing pictures and playing games. There is a storybook for each episode, to help you and your child keep the conversation going at home. The key message throughout Jessie & Friends is that if a child is ever worried about anything they come across online, they should tell a grown-up they trust, who will help them. Click here for full details, videos and activities.

Term dates for 2019-2020
We have changed the presentation format which we hope you will find easier to understand. Please note Monday 28th October will be an additional day to half term break. If there are any changes, which we do not expect, you will be informed through this email, and by text message. The term dates are posted on the website here.

Diarrhoea and Vomiting
Diarrhoea and vomiting are common in adults, children and babies. We have had a few cases over the last couple of weeks, so we thought we'd include this advice from the NHS. Diarrhoea and/or vomiting are often caused by a stomach bug and should stop in a few days. If your child is affected by diarrhoea or vomiting, they should stay off school or work until they have not been sick or had diarrhoea for at least 2 days. Please read the NHS advice on diarrhoea or vomiting, and check out NHS advice "Is my Child too ill for school?" which may help you with making a decision about whether or not to keep your child home for the day. as always, we recommend you seek professional medical advice if you are unsure of anything.

Parent Carer Advice Sessions
Do you need advice or support? The Brent Carers Centre is a charity providing advice and guidance to family carers in Brent on a wide range of subjects including benefits. See their website for more details, or phone 020 3802 7070.

The next session is on Monday May 20th. Please contact Patsy at Woodfield on 0208-205-1977 if you would like to attend a clinic, or for any further information.

Makaton
Makaton is a language programme that is used in conjunction with speech to aid the pupils’ understanding of language and help them communicate with each other more effectively. Makaton is used across the school in lessons and break times. We would love for you to learn some signs so that you can sign with your child. See the We Talk Makaton website for more.

Have a good break
