Adventures...

edition 028
Hi <<First Name>>

Back in 1964, Marshall McLuhan proclaimed “the medium is the message”; that the nature of a medium is more important than the message's meaning or content.

Fast forward 55 years and as the range of mediums we can utilise just keeps on growing, we’re having to think through our options far more than we used to.

Even the simplest of our ideas can be delivered in dozens of ways: whether a Tweet, blog post, or video; an Instagram story or an email; a phone call or an in-person group conversation.

And because we all absorb and process information differently, we have to be even more thoughtful with the mix of mediums we use to deliver our messages.

This is a real challenge - especially for those of us with limited resources.

How can we make better decisions on which mediums to use?

And how can we utilise them in ways that are compelling, creative, and considerate?

Perhaps the next edition of this digest will be delivered in a slightly different format...

I hope this month's edition grabs your attention, and as always I'd love to hear where you're spending your time right now. Just hit reply.

Thanks for reading.

Innovation

It's Morphin' time

This is a media product right now, but I can see it permeating a bunch of other industries.

It currently looks a bit shonky, but doesn't everything in the early stages?

In simple terms - insert yourself into any GIF or video scene. One of those things we didn't realise we needed...until now :)

A16Z & Billions

A podcast doubleheader featuring Billions creator Brian Koppelman & co-founder of A16Z Marc Andreessen.

Yes - it’s two successful, middle-aged, white men having a chat.

But there's some great stuff in both episodes, and I’m pleased there are more conversations bridging tech and broader creative industries.

How to deliver effective feedback in difficult situations

Have you avoided some difficult conversations recently? Yep, me too. Not with you though. You're great.

Here's a really good overview of how to use non-violent communication, whether at work or elsewhere.

Shout Outs

A few people I know who are doing good things. Let me know if you'd like to connect with them, or if you have something you'd like to share here.

> Charlotte Japp: building inter-generational connections through her event series Cirkel

> Patrice Baumel: released his Global Underground mix this week, and also made very good use of his Coachella guestlist

> Al Chen: part of the team at the very cool Coda.io - turning docs into apps. Shout to Al for giving me the chance to share my Coda prototype at their meetup last week.

Jukebox

Foals: Everything not saved will be lost

Part 1 of 2 albums being released by them this year.

A few great tracks on here but (yes, I know...) I still prefer the old stuff. This Pitchfork review sums it up
