YOU NEED AN ADVOCATE
They've never seen you shop. They've never seen you cook. They've never seen you drive. All they know is your birth year and that you are injured or ill. This is the situation as you arrive at the ER or the Hospital.
They must be shown the North Star of YOU so they can get their bearings about what their goal should be for your care.
Before you were ill or injured, were you in a skilled facility only because there was no one home to care for you after your broken hip? Or were you there because you could no longer live an unprotected life? When you come in with pneumonia and they hear you're from a facility and they look at your age -- might they draw the wrong conclusions? Even coming from home, this can be a problem.
Your ADVOCATE can tell them all about you, again and again, as shifts and Providers cycle on and off your care. While you are in the hospital or ER, your ADVOCATE is the link between your old life that you want to get back to, and your current life of illness or injury. Your ADVOCATE will tell your Providers (the umbrella term for doctors, Nurse Practitioners, Physician Assistants) what you were like before your injury or illness.
Your ADVOCATE can show those Providers the North Star of YOU, so they can set their bearings on the goal of returning you to what you were before. Who is your ADVOCATE?
