INSTRUCTOR SPOTLIGHT - JIM EMPEY

Jim Empey was born in Provo, Utah and raised in Los Angeles, CA.  Jim started playing golf at the age of 14, then played through high school (Venice High School) and college at University of Southern California (USC)
Jim's love of the game led him to play professionally in Asian and Australia, then he played in U.S. mini-tour events off/on for approximately 10 years.  Jim also worked at golf clubs when not playing in events.  While working at the clubs, he realized how much he enjoyed interacting with course customers and teaching the game of golf.  Jim decided to pursue golf instruction as a profession.  Jim also coached the USC Men's Golf Team for three years.
Jim and his wife moved to Boise in 1997 to raise their family; he started teaching at Quail Hollow in 1998.  Every year since 2013, Jim has been recognized as the "Best Teacher in Idaho" by Golf Magazine.  At Quail Hollow, you will find Jim teaching individuals or small group lessons in his One-Day-Golf School program.  Whether an individual or group lesson, Jim gets to know each student before the lesson to determine the appropriate lesson plan for each student.  Jim feels that getting to know each student allows him to determine how golf concepts should be discussed with the student.  Jim may use video or 3-D analysis, depending on student and what that the student wants to learn.
Jim is also involved with the Rocky Mountain Section of the PGA (Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, Northern Nevada) where he is working on business development for the section.  When Jim is not teaching or working with the Rocky Mountain Section, you may find him playing in a Pro-Am Tournament in the area.  To prepare for the 2019 golf season, Jim suggests that golfers warm up prior to playing by stretching and performing easy golf swings.  Also, keep your expectations low at the start of a new season to avoid frustration with the game.

2019 One-Day Golf School dates are April 11, 18, May 2, 9, 16, 30, June 6, 20, 27.
For the One-Day Golf School please register on-line or call the Boise Parks & Recreation's Fort Boise location at 208-608-7680.
For individual lessons, please contact Jim at 208-440-4653.

GOLF COURSE ETIQUETTE

As the 2019 golf season swings into full gear, we want to remind you of a few things:
  1. Be kind and considerate to other golfers,
  2. Be quiet while others are hitting their shot,
  3. Repair ball marks on the green and fix divots in the fairway,
  4. Pace of Play - make sure to keep up with the group in front of you (The pace of play for 18 holes at Warm Springs should be 4 hours 10 minutes, while the pace at Quail Hollow should be 4 hours 30 minutes.),
  5. If you play from a bunker, please remember to rake your footprints,
  6. Yell "FORE" if you hit a shot that is headed towards other golfers,
  7. No five-somes are allowed on either course; we reserve the right to pair up players to make four-somes as necessary to help pace of play.
