Dear ICOLPH School Families,

Happy April! The nice weather and late spring break are really giving the students (and staff) spring fever! We still have a lot of learning left in this school year, so we’re all trying to keep our focus on the tasks at hand. As always, there’s a lot of information to be had in this newsletter, so please read it completely to find all the things you need to know!

Last week’s Spring Concert was fantastic! Mrs. Gerbus does an incredible job with our students and our middle school band and choir students did not disappoint. It was a great night of music and community!

Today is Coffee Break Friday. We ask that you consider giving up your coffee for the day and contributing those funds to the Annual Gift Campaign. Many of you did at morning carpool (thank you!!) but if you did not have a chance, the students will be out with their coffee cans at this afternoon’s pick up. If you wish to have this donation go toward your fundraising obligation, simply put it in an envelope with your name on it and we will credit your account. Thank you for supporting the Annual Gift Campaign!!

A reminder that April is the last month to meet your fundraising and volunteer hour requirements. Any remaining fundraising and/or volunteer hours will be billed in May. Volunteer hours are billed at $20/hour. We have several projects that can be done around the school, including touch-up painting, moving desks and organizing spaces, to name a few. If you are in need of volunteer hours, please give us a call with times you would be available to come in and we will put you to work!

Lastly, please consider contacting your state representatives urging them to support Senate Bill 5514 which requires improved emergency communication practices from law enforcement to schools.  This law would require that local emergency responders contact private schools when a crisis is occurring nearby to the school. This bill to protect children at all schools (whether public or private) has yet to be scheduled for a vote, so we would appreciate your support.  Here is a link to the Washington State Catholic Conference Action Center, where visitors receive further background on the bill and are able to easily connect with lawmakers via email (yes – lawmakers will read these emails as they consider their vote). Thank you for lending your voice to this important issue for Catholic schools in our state.

I hope you have a wonderful weekend!

Blessings,
Kathy Wartelle, Principal

Catholic Schools Track Meet (4-8th Grade) VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!!!

Mr. Woodworth is still looking for the following volunteers:

4th Place Judge (1 volunteer)
Softball Throw (3 volunteers)
Soccer Kick (1 volunteer)
ICOLPH Garden Project
Last year's 6th grade class voted to start a garden for their class service project. They started off with a fundraiser to buy materials for their garden, which is in the fenced corner of our school lot. With the help of Alan Czarnecki, who raised the storm drain and donated both gravel and dirt, the garden took shape. This year's 6th grade class has done a lot of planting, weeding, and watering to get spring flowers up, with hydrangeas, roses, dahlias, and crocosmia in the works. In addition, the 6th grade is also planting vegetables behind the rectory to donate to the parish food bank. It is inspiring to see our students serving their community and actively espousing Catholic ideals through their actions.

CARPOOL REMINDERS

Cars need to approach the school from the north on Hoyt AvenueDo not turn from 25th onto Hoyt; this is not a four-way stop. There is not a stop sign on Hoyt, therefore do not block the intersection- you can be ticketed by Everett Police Department for doing so.

All students need to be picked up and dropped off using the carpool lanes. Alternately, you may park in the neighborhood and walk to the school and retrieve your student(s). Please use crosswalks and obey the safety patrol directions.

To help eliminate afternoon congestion parents should not be in line, or enter the gate until 3:00 pm (2:50 for preschool/kindergarten ONLY). PLEASE drive slowly in the carpool lanes on school grounds, and when approaching the school.  Pull as far forward as you can, both in the morning and the afternoon, to allow other parents in to pick up their children. Do NOT get out of your car. Please refrain from cell phone use while driving on the parking lot! Thank you.

Mrs. Nybo's Favorite Bible Verse: Jeremiah 29:11

"For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you plans to give you hope and a future."

"God has a plan for each of us, that should give us great hope for our future. In today's world, it is what I hold on to."

ICOLPH PRAYER LINE

In prayer you become one with the source of our true light - Jesus Himself.

-Pope Saint John Paul II

Please consider offering up these prayers daily. We invite all students and their families to send prayer requests to Elisa Whitehouse via email, whitehouse@ic-olph.org, or bring them to school and drop them off at the office.

During Lent, let us pray in quiet remembrance our need for redemption, and to our Lord ask for the humility to combat sin. We pray to the Lord. Lord, hear our prayer.

We remember our loved ones who have died and keep the hope that they are enjoying eternal life with Jesus and the saints. We pray especially for Lucas Keator, Barbara and Joseph Greene, Kathleen Turcotte, Drew Lenz, Jake Amancio and all those on our parish prayer lines. We pray to the Lord. Lord, hear our prayer.

For all our loved ones who are sick and suffering, may they find healing and relief in Jesus. We pray especially for Ellie Brodland’s grandson Avery, Michael, Elizabeth, Mike, Liam, Joan, Nuria Regan-Bone’s mother and all those on our parish prayer lines. We pray to the Lord. Lord, hear our prayer.

We give thanks to God for all our wonderful school friends and our dedicated school staff. May we see His face in each of theirs every day. We pray to the Lord.  Lord, hear our prayer.

For all our students’ family members who serve in the military, that God keeps them safe and bound to Him despite any danger or hardships. We pray to the Lord. Lord, hear our prayer.

Pope Francis’ April intention: For doctors and their humanitarian collaborators in war zones who risk their lives to save the lives of others, we pray to the Lord. Lord, hear our prayer.

For all grade school, high school and college students and athletes, that their academics stay strong and their bodies healthy as the school year progresses. We pray to the Lord. Lord, hear our prayer.

Let us pray for all those who need prayers and have no one to pray for them. We pray to the Lord. Lord, hear our prayer.

For all our friends and family who are struggling with sadness, anger and anxiety, and that we will reach out to be lights in the darkness for them. We pray to the Lord. Lord, hear our prayer.

Let us thank God for all the new opportunities and second chances He gives us each day. May we gratefully accept them and use them! We pray to the Lord. Lord, hear our prayer.

We are so thankful for our families. May we show our gratitude for them regularly and be sure they know our love for them. We pray to the Lord. Lord, hear our prayer.

May the call of vocations bring an increase in priests and religious. We pray and are grateful especially for our fellow parishioners Duane Schireman and Chris Shambro, who are in the Archdiocese Diaconate Program. We pray to the Lord. Lord, hear our prayer.

For those who think their sins are unforgivable, may they turn to God with trust in His loving mercy. We pray to the Lord. Lord, hear our prayer.

May God protect the people who dedicate their lives protecting the innocent. We pray especially for those in the armed forces, government leaders, pro-life volunteers, school staff, and all parents and guardians. We pray to the Lord. Lord, hear our prayer.

For all those who are experiencing spiritual doubt and separation, that Jesus calls them back home to the Church where we await them with love. We pray to the Lord. Lord, hear our prayer.

May God’s voice be heard and peace be felt throughout the world, bringing unity among all His people.  We pray to the Lord.  Lord, hear our prayer.

With confidence in our Heavenly Father, we pray that He will guide all those who are facing difficult decisions and are confused or afraid. May they see the benefit of placing their trust in Him as they journey through this life. We pray to the Lord. Lord, hear our prayer.

For our religious leaders, may God’s blessing and strength be with them. We pray especially for Fr. Joseph, Fr. Francis, Deacon Kelly and all our generous visiting priests. We pray to the Lord. Lord, hear our prayer.

Jesus knows all our secrets and all our hearts’ desires. Let us offer up our prayers of needs and wants to Him. We pray to the Lord. Lord, hear our prayer.
