TBTC E-Notes - February, 2020

This month we feature the 2020 Hike Leader Training coming up in April.

One standout difference between the TBTC's hiking program and those of the many other hiking groups in this city is the rigorous and comprehensive training and apprenticeship that all our hike leaders must complete before organizing and leading their own hikes. This is how we ensure best practices with respect to enjoyment and safety on all our hikes.

We are justifiably proud of our hike leaders, and we invite you to join our excellent team. Read further for more information about this year's training.

Happy February, everyone.
2020 Hike Leader Training Course April 4-5 2020

Hike Leader training consists of a two-day workshop that provides you with the information you require to lead hikes for the Toronto Bruce Trail Club. It is an intensive combination of practical outdoor ‘hands on’ and classroom instruction. Following completion of the course participants must assist on at least three hikes (one of each type minimum) under the supervision of a certified hike leader and plan and lead a graduation hike before receiving their certification.

Nominations wanted for the TBTC’s two volunteer awards

The Nina Carlisle Award is given to a longstanding volunteer (at least five years) who is actively involved in the activities of the Toronto Bruce Trail Club. Such volunteering could be in the areas of trail maintenance, hike leading, social event planning, communications, administrative tasks, fund raising and Board service. The award is not restricted to any one volunteer specialty.

Todd Bardes Volunteer Award. In 2016 the Board decided to establish an award to recognize significant volunteer contributions over a shorter time span (the last one or two years).

For full detail please go to the Nominations document on the Club's News and Event page.

Winter fun on the trails

If you are not getting out on the trail at this time of year, think again. The temperatures have been mild and the woods are beautiful in the winter, particularly after a fresh snowfall. Take advantage of the Club's winter program in and out of the city!
