Meet the Class of 2020: Blake Lanphier
 Blake Lanphier, 26, Gurnee, is a Manager of Operations for Historic Wagner Farm in Glenview, focusing on daily operations and education programs. His professional career has included being an instruction leader at Iowa State University, along with animal sciences work and research at Apple Creek Whitetail Ranch and Windrush Farms in Wisconsin and Iowa respectively. Blake is a 4-H Leader with the Glenview Clovers and is a Lake County Livestock Committee member. He attended Winona State University and received his Bachelor of Science in Animal Science from Iowa State University.

Class of 2020 Completes the National Study Seminar in Washington, D.C. and Gettysburg, PA
The Class of 2020 recently completed the National Study Seminar in Washington, D.C. and Gettysburg PA. Throughout the seminar, the class members were exposed to our nation's capital and the leadership issues within each branch of government, were able to learn from policy-makers and their staff the impact of legislation and its interpretation on agriculture, were taught by agriculture advocates the importance of coalition building and prioritizing policy goals in the interest of American agriculture, began to understand different cultures and how global trade plays a role in agriculture policy, and gained insights and perspective on leadership as exemplified on the battlegrounds of Gettysburg. The Class of 2020 began the morning of March, 14 at the United States Capitol and a meeting with Senator Dick Durbin (pictured right). After a brief tour of the Rotunda, the class moved to the House Ag Committee Conference Room where they were able to meet several members of Congress. The class then departed for Gettysburg. That evening they enjoyed dinner and a presentation with the Chesapeake Bay Foundation.

Congresswoman Cheri Bustos the U.S. Representative for Illinois's 17th congressional district. 
 The class was able to engage with all of these speakers in the House Ag Committee Conference Room.
Class members participate in a discussion on sustainability from the Chesapeake Bay Foundation.

Friday morning began with a presentation about leadership by Terry Fox. The class then headed to the visitor's center at Gettysburg National Military Park to view the film, "A New Birth of Freedom." That afternoon the class enjoyed lunch at the Dobbin House and were able to view the sites of the 1st Day's Battle, Culp's Hill, Cemetery Hill, the Peach orchard, and Cemetery Ridge.

Saturday, March 16, marked the final day of the National Study Seminar. Before their departure that afternoon, the class took in the final sites and presentations of the trip. They began at the Gateway Theater where they observed the Program on Transactional and Transformational Leadership Styles. Following the presentation, the Class of 2020 headed to Little Round Top. They then went to the Beginning of Picket's Charge before finally visiting the Angle where the charge ended. This concluded the National Study Seminar
Upcoming Seminars
Seminars will resume in June after a brief hiatus to accommodate the spring planting season. They will recommence with the Business Communications and Media Seminar in Chicago, June 26-28.
