Conservation in Action: The Lost Tinamou

In a new blog post, we tell the story of Heidi Pasch de Viteri and the Lost Tinamou nature preserve in Guatemala. Ms. de Vitero has worked over the past 30 years to create the nature preserve, which takes up one-third of her family’s farm, Finca la Gracia. The Lost Tinamou sits on what was once a coffee plantation and is nestled among pineapple fields, rubber tree copses, grazing dairy cattle, grass, and sugarcane fields that make up Finca la Gracia. After decades of management, it is now a humid secondary growth forest that has become an oasis for a wide variety of wild animals amidst many hundreds of surrounding acres of sugar cane plantations that blanket the countryside.
