Hi <<First Name>>! With lots of great opportunities and ways to engage for alumni teachers, we wanted to create a special edition blast just for you. You will still receive monthly general alumni blasts but we wanted to highlight a few opportunities designed just for teachers. If you prefer not to get these occasional teacher blasts, please simply reply back and let Amanda know! Additionally if there are specific resources you would be interested in such as employment opportunities or teacher specific professional development please let us know! 
Teach For America Sue Lehman Excellence in Teacher Leadership Award
Applications are open for the Sue Lehmann Excellence in Teacher Leadership Award. Recipients will receive a $5,000 cash prize to contribute to their systems change or professional development (group applications split the prize), a feature in One Day magazine, regional and national press releases, and will also receive accommodations to attend an awards celebration at this year's Head of Program Conference in October.
Deadlines: All parts of the application are due July 1, 2019. However the application process has several parts and we recommend breaking down each section into smaller sections. 

Creating a portfolio of work like this is a great chance to grow and reflect as a teacher. Teach For America-Jacksonville is able to support you through this process. Staff can help with components 2-5 including prepping and recording videos, interviewing students, and final application review. Reach out to Amanda Cagan for more information. 
New Fellowship in Jacksonville for TFA Teachers! Applications Open May 1st 
The Boselli Foundation has partnered with Teach For America Jacksonville to launch a new teaching fellowship designed to provide teachers in K-5 classrooms with professional development opportunities to cultivate skills in the areas of cultural responsiveness and engaging literacy instruction. This year-long program for those entering their third to fifth year of teaching seeks to develop effective educational leaders serving students in Jacksonville’s highest areas of need. Individual coaching, mentoring, and on-going workshops will allow teachers to continue building knowledge and skills needed to support students in their classrooms.For questions, and to apply please plan to submit the following:
completion application, submission of your resume,1-2 letters of recommendation (send to Jennifer@bosellifoundation.com). Contact Amanda for the application. 
Dig Deeper into Content and Pedagogy
When teachers know the expectations for students, they can help their students reach that bar. Organizing grade- and subject-specific support is hard within one district but a common need across district lines. The Florida Bootcamps are two-day, deep-dive trainings offered in math and ELA at every grade level, focused on the most challenging content of the grade.

Florida Bootcamps Dates:

  • June 25-26

  • July 23-24

Johns Hokins - Applications Close May 1st 
TFA/ TNTP and Johns Hopkins University are excited to offer a Master of Science in Education degree that is available to TFA/ TNTP corps members and alumni nationwide. This highly ranked online master's degree allows you to keep developing professionally while still making an impact in your local area/school. The degree includes several support systems: Hopkins instructors to support educational pedagogy, video platform to support reflective practices, three exploratory career pathway options and much more – all aligned to the essentials of quality teaching you began mastering with TFA/ TNTP.
The application to join JHU as part of the Fall 2019 cohort is open, the third application window is closing soon. Open slots are filling up quickly, apply before the next deadline of May 1.

In order to gain a clear perspective on how alumni envision this growth happening, alumni are leading focus groups next month.  You have engaged in the past or have expressed interest in participating in alumni work or corps member support, so we would love to have you attend.

Show Up to Celebrate Our Students!
Each year, we honor and celebrate our students for their remarkable achievements throughout the year. At Last year's showcase, the KIPP Jacksonville Step Team brought down the house, Raines student, Regina Harden, breathed life into the room with her spoken word performance, and over 100 students and family members celebrated the achievements and hard work of their students. Join us on Saturday, May 4th at 1PM at Matthew Gilbert Middle School to recognize the students who are lighting the path for their peers and community!
