The History Check App.

Impact Tourism has been working on a mobile app that will bring information to travellers in the province.  The project is not a stand-alone but encompasses the cooperation and alliances of multiple organizations and individuals.  Site listings on this map-based app include contact information for attractions and services, and links to local information, directing users back to local sources.

The beta has been online and available in the north for over a year and is set to go Alberta wide in June.  Originally containing some 700 sites or Points of Interest, it has grown to 2,000 and submissions from tourism organizations, municipalities, heritage societies, businesses and individuals are flooding in.

History Check is likely the first of its kind that carries such a broad range of information for such a large geographical area - the entire province – and it’s not all about the app.  It’s a way for each region, business, attraction and non-profit to work together.  History Check is just a big road map that guides people to local sources of information.  Throw in the history and each Alberta community invites engagement.

On June 21-23, with local events held across the province Impact Tourism is prepared for History Check to go viral.  The event has been posted on their Facebook page (www.facebook.com/HistoryCheck) and as community organizations verify their participation the schedule will begin to grow.
