Tēnā koutou,
The Charities Act 2005 is currently being reviewed to ensure that it is effective and fit for purpose. We know many of you have raised concerns about the consultation period and Minister Peeni Henare has now agreed to an extension of time for submissions.
Instead of closing on 30 April, submissions will now close on 31 May.
We continue to encourage you to make a submission, drawing on information shared in the Department of Internal Affairs' discussion document, or at the seminars around the country if you were able to make it to one.
Dave Henderson and Sue Barker (who are conducting independent research on the review) also prepared the following papers, and which you can request from
davehendersonnz@gmail.com:
# Issues Paper - Review of the Charities Act, and
# Review of the Charities Act - Why you should get Involved.
LEAD's Director Garth Nowland-Foreman also wrote a comprehensive blog summarising some key issues for the sector. He makes six recommendations that may be useful. Read the blog here (via LEAD).
