Please enter by the side door for the Easter Dawn Service. After the dawn service, all are welcome to breakfast at the Premier Inn for £9.50/person.

Fast and Pray


Arun spoke in the morning services on the importance of fasting and praying for others. He challenged us as a church to fast a meal or for a day during Holy Week and to pray for the themes listed below. What a powerful thing it is to pray and fast as a church--wherever you are this week, you are encouraged to join us. We can't wait to see how God moves! 

Messy Easter


On Saturday, 20th April from 4-6pm we are having our annual Messy Easter. Come along as a family  for crafts, food, games, fun and more. This is a great outreach event for our community, so make sure to invite your friends! We are also in need of 3 more volunteers to help run the day. If you're interested please contact Kate Swann.

APCM

Our Annual Parochial Church Meeting (APCM) will take place on 30th April at 7:30pm. This is a time for us to review the last year and plan for the year to come. If you are on the Electoral Role then you are able to vote on the night for any new Church Wardens, PCC members and Deanery Synod members.

Advertiser Column


Arun often writes columns about faith for the Advertiser. He wrote one this week entitled "An Enduring Hope at Easter."

Nomination Forms


Nomination forms to become a Church Warden, serve on PCC, and the Deanery Synod will be available from this Sunday. If you have any questions about these roles, please speak to Arun, or our current Church Wardens--Chris Jelley and Naomi Stevens. Voting for these roles will take place at our APCM on 30th April. 

Confirmation Sunday and Confirmation Course


On Sunday 9th June at 3pm, there will be a Confirmation Service at St Nics with Bishop Sarah. If you are interested in being confirmed, please speak with Arun. There will be a four-week Confirmation Course on Tuesday's in May from 7:30-8:30pm, please click here to sign up.

Prayer for Our Mission Links


There will be a chance to enjoy fellowship together and to pray for our mission links next Sunday afternoon, April 28th, at the home of  Stephanie and Andrew Trigger, 96 Canterbury Road, Durham.  We will start at 4:30 pm and finish at 6pm prompt.  All welcome.

In the Arena: Equipping Men for the Challenges of Life


Care for the Family are hosting this event in Newcastle on June 5 at Westgate Baptist Church, 7:30-10pm. In the Arena is an event for men where speakers Rob Parsons and Gerrit Bantjes will share strategies to strengthen and empower you. With inspirational stories about critical areas of every day life, you will leave encouraged and better prepared to run life's race. Click here to book your place and for more details.

Gateway World Shop


Gateway is looking for one or two people to fulfill 2 x 2 hour weekday shifts to provide lunch cover. This is a paid position and would commence in May. If you are interested please apply to the manager Mrs. Hazel Dobson by email.

Save the Date: Christian Aid Lunch


To mark the start of Christian Aid week, come and hear Tim Burdon (Christian Aid's Regional Coordinator - Durham, Darlington and Teesside) share about his recent experience in Burundi at 1pm on Sunday 12th May. A simple soup, cake and fruit lunch will be provided. Donations to Christian Aid are welcome. A sign-up sheet to attend the lunch will be available on the welcome desk after Easter.

Living Life in Conflict - Israel/Palestine


Musalaha Ministry of Reconciliation has been working in Israel and Palestine for 25 years bringing together Israelis and Palestinians both Christian and none Christian.  Salim Munayer, who is a Christian Palestinian from Jerusalem, is the Director of Musalaha. Salim will be speaking in St Nics on 25th April at 7-30pm (Church open for tea/coffee at 7pm) on the subject “Living Life in Conflict Israel-Palestine”.  Also Salim’s wife, Kay, will speak about her work with Bethlehem Bible College’s Shepherd Society which provides aid to disadvantaged people in the West Bank.

Public Lecture: Christianity & Assisted Suicide


Cranmer Hall, St Johns College, Durham University, 8th May from 4:15-5:30pm in Leech Hall. Bishop James Newcome is Bishop of Carlisle and is the Church of England's lead bishop for healthcare and social care issues and medical ethics in the House of Lords. He co-authored the report At the End of the Day: Church of England Perspectives on End of Life Issues (Church House 2014).
Discovery at Nics is a space to learn, explore, and discover more about God, your neighbour, and yourself. From January, we will be having our 4pm service only on the first and third Sunday's of the month. The first will be our family service and the third Sunday we will continue our Theology for All series.

April - No Theology for All
There will be no Theology for All in April due to Easter services.

St. Nics Daily Prayer Diary


Sunday – Pray for our clergy and readers: Arun Arora, David Day, David Goodhew, Jeff Hattan, Jamie Harrison, Peter Johnson, Jo Logan, Maeve Sherlock and Andrew Trigger.

Monday – Pray for the care of God’s creation. For the eco group and the work of those who are passionate about being stewards of God’s earth. Pray for the work of those Christian organisations who challenge us to act responsibly.

Tuesday – For those who enable our worship on Sunday – those who play music, operate a/v and sound desks, the welcome team, the flower team, coffee makers, intercessors, those who read the lesson, those who enable our celebration of Holy Communion.

Wednesday – Pray for our buildings, the opportunities they provide for us to worship and to share our faith with others.

Thursday – Pray for members of our prayer ministry team that they will draw closer to God so that others can be drawn closer to God in prayer.

Friday – Pray for the work of the churches across Durham. For Durham Christian Partnership and Durham Churches Together. For the Deanery of Durham.

Saturday – For Small Group leaders and members of small groups that they may have wisdom to teach and learn, to care for one another and grow in discipleship.
