A range of local organisations are working collaboratively to ensure a fair and equal local election. The organisations involved include Galway City Community Network, Galway City Partnership, Galway Traveller Movement, Amach LGBTI+, Cope Galway, the Bridge Project, the Disability Federation of Ireland, Access for All and the Galway Anti-racism Network

By adopting the three values underpinning the manifesto developed at a national level by the Community Platform - community, decency, participation - the #EqualityVotesGalway Taskgroup will develop a manifesto calling on all local candidates to ensure equality is at the heart of their representation.

Community Enhancement Programme 2019

Galway City Council through the Local Community Development Committee (LCDC) invites applications for funding from interested Community Groups / Organisations with the Galway City administrative area under the Community Enhancement Programme (CEP) for 2019.

The programme can fund or partially fund larger scale projects to address disadvantage. Some funding is ring-fenced to provide small capital grants of €1,000 or less. This is aimed at assisting grassroots community projects to get off the ground.

  • Improvements to town parks and common areas and spaces
  • Public realm improvements

  • Development of play/recreation spaces

Irish Language Plan

NUI Galway has launched a bilingual survey to gather the views of the public on the proposed Irish Language Plan for Galway City 2019-2026. The research is being conducted on behalf of Galway City Council and Gaillimh le Gaeilge as part of the preparation of an Irish language plan for the City.

The online survey will run until Friday, 12 April 2019 and aims to assess the desires and needs of the community in relation to the development of the Irish language in Galway. Under the Gaeltacht Act of 2012, Galway has been nominated a Gaeltacht Service Town and is required to develop its own plan to increase the use of Irish within the city.
