South Greenpower Racing

On April 5th and 6th, the Harlingen South Hawks Racing Team competed in the 2nd Annual Greenpower USA Electric Car Race in Brownsville. This year the event was held at the UTRGV campus and involved a field of 25 teams from middle schools, high schools and institutes of higher learning. The race objective is to run as many laps as possible during a 90-minute period, with only one set of batteries. Students get to modify their cars to make them more efficient, faster or to find that delicate balance between the two. It is a fantastic experience for the students involved as they get real life feedback on the performance of the parts and modifications they engineer for their cars. Awards are given to the top three teams in each category, but the reality is all participants are winners in this tremendous learning experience!
