It was weirdly enough the shyest of my artists acquaintances who said it: Suck up Kick Down. (A journalist I admire a lot,  told me last week she never writes scheisse, she writes schlecht- not shit but bad. So let s say not suck but ...duck.) Late night -bar babette – The conversation went like this.
-...I know what you mean Duck up -Kick Down.
- I am sorry duck what?
-It is what they say, you live your life, ducking up- kicking down.
-You mean like you ignore people who want something from you and get ignored from people you want something from?
-Snob and get snobed.
-Get shit- give shit.
-The Blamestorming!
-The Ass Kissing Pyramid...
-Oh I see, I think I live my life kicking up, kicking down, whoever gets in my way.
-Doesn’t ducking actually imply well you are ducking at...male organs?
-Isn’t that typical...
-So you duck a little bit, what is the big deal? Everybody does it... You duck at first, get famous, then you get ducked.
-You duck up, but you help down, it’s your duty as an artist, and a human being by the way, to help others along the way. You should be doing it already, you are famous enough!
- A Gallerist friend of mine, always told me , stop doing so much for other people, you have to take care of yourself.
- Yep and we saw how well that ended.. you got dumped.
-I say, if it feels like ducking (to you or to them) you are not doing it right...

Since everybody is ducking out of town this week and next, lay back and relax, visit some awesome on going shows, or skip the shows alltogether, watch a movie, have a date.

Yeah yeah. But what do we really know about berlin’s project spaces and the people behing them?
Have You Met… will be introducing them to you, one by one, this week with...Anna Catharina Gebbers

Text and photgraphs by Maria Santos

He is very big in Italy...
Is he, ha.. I thought it was just a friend of John’s..
He is huge in Italy... Here in Berlin he is a nobody.
That is what I love about berlin, you can be anybody anywhere, here we are all the same.
Yeah I don’t know about that...
I am big in Berlin..
Well you have to be big somewhere.
I think it is ok if I just go ahead and say it: Saying you are an artist (in Berlin) is kind of the equivalent of saying you are Greek right now. Try it out...
The second Speed Portfolio Viewing took place last Sunday 25.09 in L40, kindly hosted by Verein zur Förderung von Kunst e.V. am Rosa-Luxemburg Platz. After the event we asked artists and curators for a short feedback.
