Hi <<First Name>>,

In light of today's announcement of the Federal Election being called for Saturday 18 May, we want to jump right into exploring the Uniting Church in Australia's federal election resources - starting with the first foundation; A First Peoples Heart.

We know that, right now, Indigenous communities, both remote and urban, experience heightened levels of disadvantage. Our vision is instead for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples, nurtured and sustained by God before colonisation, to be celebrated at the very heart of what it means to be Australian. For First Peoples’ sovereignty to be affirmed, to have a voice in the decision making of our country and to be living out their right to self-determination.

Each of the seven foundational areas of this Vision for a Just Australia includes witness from the Bible, UCA statements, a snapshot of the current situation, key actions to advocate for and questions to encourage conversation or put to local candidates. It's a great place to start when considering how and why to campaign for a just Australia this election season - so why not check it out today?

For the sake of justice and peace,

Geoff and Kate

The Uniting Church Synod of Western Australia acknowledges the Wadjuk people of the Noongar nation, on whose land our Synod office stands. We acknowledge their elders past and present, and their people.

At its 7th Assembly the Uniting Church formally entered into a relationship of Covenant with its Indigenous members, recognising and repenting for the Church’s complicity in the injustices perpetrated on Australia’s Indigenous community, and pledging to move forward with a shared future. Congress’ generous response to this statement, among other messages, called upon the broader Church to take up the mission of reconciliation.

The ongoing and continually renewing nature of the Covenant calls the Uniting Church to continually act to remove the systems and structures of discrimination and oppression in Australia. The Uniting Church works for just, inclusive and equal relationships, recognising the place of First Peoples in Australia.
