Darkness into Light 5km walk Saturday 11th May 2019
Just a quick reminder that the Annual Darkness into Light Walk Hong Kong takes places tomorrow morning at 4.30am from Sun Yat Sen Plaza in Sheung Wan.
Registration is still open if you would like to go along and show your support to this fantastic charity event that helps raise awareness and raise much needed funds for Pieta House, Ireland and local charities; The Samaritan Befrienders Hong Kong, KELY Support Group (KELY) & Mind Hong Kong.
For those of you unfamiliar with the event, Darkness into Light is a 5km charity walk that originated in the Phoenix Park in Dublin in 2009 to raise funds for Pieta House, the Irish suicide awareness charity which offers a free counselling service to those in need.
Symbolically the walk represents the therapeutic counselling journey and sparks the well needed conversation about the importance of mental health and well-being in all our lives. From small beginnings, the movement has grown year on year and in 2018 over 200,000 people took part walking across the world in relay; 150 locations, 16 countries and across 5 continents, starting at first light in Wellington, New Zealand right through the turn of the worlds day to dawn in Vancouver, Canada where the final walk of the event took place.
Here in Hong Kong, last year in only it's second year running, over 700 people met at Sun Yat Sen Plaza to show their support for family, friends and those who have been bereaved by suicide.
Although a serious cause, the walk also provides an opportunity for people to connect with their local community in a bright, positive and fun way to raise much needed funds for the free services that are offered those in need.
