New Prayer Requests
Chris Phifer is now at Home. Thank you for the cards and prayers. We need your continued prayers.

JJ Shannon had a successful knee replacement Tuesday, 3/26.  She is now home recovering.

Martha's grandson Max is experiencing an escalation of a serious health issue.

To download the full prayer needs for the week, click here.
Weekly Worship Bulletin and Announcements
We are continuing to explore ways to use the projection screens in worship—liturgy, hymns, images, announcements. As good stewards of creation and our finances, we would like to decrease paper and printing costs. So, instead of using a paper bulletin, please try using the screens.

Important announcements can be received through our weekly email, This Week at Calvin, and the Announcements that scroll before the service.

As a new feature, the weekly bulletin and announcements can be found on the web at sundaysatcalvin.org. You are welcome to use your smartphone or tablet in worship, preview the bulletin, or catch up on announcements throughout the week.

And, of course, should you want or need a paper bulletin and announcements sheet, copies will be available.
Sundays at Calvin
Spring Fling Dance
Saturday, April 13th | 7:00 pm
On April 13th we will celebrate the new season with the Spring Fling Dance at 7:00 pm. We’re bringing in the fabulous Tigard High School Jazz Band under the direction of Jim Irving! This will be an enjoyable evening of the Big Band Sound of the 30’s, 40’s, and 50’s with composers like Glenn Miller, and Tom Dorsey for your listening and dancing pleasure. Prizes will be awarded for “Spot Dances”.
The Season of Lent
Lent is a season of forty days, not counting Sundays, which begins on Ash Wednesday. The forty days represents the time Jesus spent in the wilderness, enduring temptation and preparing to begin his ministry. A season of spiritual recommitment, Christians are invited to focus on their relationship with God, devote themselves to prayer and fasting, perform works of love by giving something up or giving of themselves in ways that minister to others.

Lenten Study Opportunities
  • The Survivor Personality Class—Small Group
Why do some people survive and thrive through stress when others do not? Carolyn Bradley will teach a class on the traits of survivors based on the book, The Survivor Personality by Al Siebert, PhD. Those interested in how you can develop these traits in yourself can join a small group that will meet Wednesday nights from 6:25-7:25 pm in the Koinonia Room, March 13 through April 17.  The first twelve to sign up will receive a copy of the book. The signup will be available on the Good News Center or by contacting the main office.

  • Entering the Passion of Jesus—Group Study
In Entering the Passion of Jesus: A Beginner’s Guide to Holy Week, author, professor, and biblical scholar Amy-Jill Levine explores the biblical texts surrounding the Passion story. She shows us how the text raises ethical and spiritual questions for the reader, and how we all face risk in our Christian experience.

The six-session DVD features Dr. Amy-Jill Levine offering a fresh, timely reinterpretation of the Passion of Jesus. The video segments are approximately 10-12 minutes each and serve as the springboard for group study.

Wednesdays, 6:30 pm | Fellowship Hall
  • April 17 – Gethsemane

Easter Egg Hunt
Saturday, April 20th | 10:00 am
Kids! Join us for Calvin’s annual neighborhood Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday, April 20, at 10:00 am! Coffee, hot chocolate, and donuts will also be available. If you would like to help with the Easter Egg Hunt, please consider donating candy and/or signing up at the Good News Center to hide eggs at 9:00 am that morning.

Intergenerational News
Earlier this month, Evelyn Eayrs, Anne McKee and Sue Van Stelle attended a retreat hosted by Presbyterian denominational leaders Dr. Jason Santos and Rev. Brian Frick. The topic was Intergenerational Ministry, something that Calvin is already committed to. As a result of this retreat, Calvin and ten other Presbyterian churches in our area are helping our entire Presbyterian denomination find ways to engage the future. Here’s how you can help lead the way: 1) join a conversation about Intergenerational Ministry and what it means—dates still to be determined. 2) Dive into one of our Lenten lunch table activities and fill out an evaluation sheet. This data will be useful for the whole PC(USA.) 3) Do you enjoy learning something new or trying something new? Join the Intergenerational Task Force. Talk to Evelyn, Charmine Rone, Sue or Anne McKee to find out more.
We Need Easter Candy!
Calvin is once again hosting a neighborhood Easter egg hunt on Saturday, April 20th at 10:00 am! Children’s Ministry will be collecting candy for the eggs from now until Wednesday, April 17th. Please bring individually, factory-wrapped candies that can fit into an egg. (Eg. “Dumdums” don’t fit.) Look for a collection bin by the Good News Center.
April Showers
Sundays, April 7th & 14th
Calvin is hosting April Showers for the Washington County Babies First program. We look forward to your donations of new items of clothing, warm pajamas, sleep sacks, developmental toys, and board books for babies or toddlers ages 2 and under. (For safety reasons, we are not requesting blankets.) Gift cards to Target or Fred Meyer are also helpful. The families have loved the knit or crocheted items that send such a symbol of caring and love. Washington County Nurses provide home visitation services to low-income, first-time mothers. The nurses make visits early in the mother’s pregnancy and continue until the child’s second birthday. Our gifts help to benefit this multigenerational program in our community. If you have questions whether the item you have in mind might be appropriate, please contact Anne Wallace, or leave a message at the church office. There will be a table set up in the Fellowship Hall on both Sundays, or you can bring your items by the office. Thank you for your generosity!
One Great Hour of Sharing
Jesus’ ministry was among those who were most vulnerable. He preached good news to the poor and release to the captives. One Great Hour of Sharing helps us share this same good news to those same vulnerable people in our world today: those who are hungry, who are suffering from disaster, who are dealing with oppression and injustice in society. Please pick up a OGHS offering envelope at church and return it on Palm Sunday or Easter Sunday with your enclosed gift. Every gift made to this offering will meet the needs of people through life-saving programs: Presbyterian Disaster Assistance, Presbyterian Hunger Program, and Self-Development of People.  To Learn more about the One Great Hour of Sharing Offering, click here.
Help Needed
  • Donation Takers
Volunteers are needed to help set out food and to take donations for Sunday lunch. If you enjoy our Sunday lunches and can help out, please sign up to help at the Good News Center. Thank you!

  • Money Counters
Monday mornings, 9 – 11 AM, the Sunday offering is counted and deposited in the bank. We could use some extra volunteers to help count receipts, once or twice a month. Please contact our bookkeeper Alice Daniels or Pastor Wallace. Compensation: important volunteer work and all the coffee you can drink.

  • Van Driver
We are in need of a van driver for Sunday mornings, once a month. They must possess valid Oregon Driver License, safe driving record, cheerful demeanor.  Please apply in Calvin Office or talk to Pastor Jim or Terry McKee.
Kirkin' O' the Tartans
Sunday, April 28th | 10:00 am
The Kirkin’ O’ the Tartans is a celebration of our Presbyterian roots, going back to the Scottish Reformation in the 16th century. At that time, the Scottish people expressed their family heritage by wearing  their clan tartan in the kirk (church).

Members The Clan Macleay Pipes and Drums, one of the oldest continually existing bagpipe bands in North America, will play during the service. Calvin members Dan and Joyce Dorsett, and their sons, are members of the band.

The Clan Macleay practices each week at Calvin. Click on this Willamette Week link and scroll down until you see the picture of the bagpipers in the sanctuary and the accompanying story.

Calvin members and friends are invited to wear or carry their family tartans on Sunday, April 28, join in the procession led by bagpipes and drums, celebrate our faith tradition and family heritage, and join together as the “Clan of Christ.”
Calvin Service Live Stream
If you are unable to join us in person on Sunday morning, join us in spirit. You can watch the service live and also view previous services. Click here for our channel.
