Hi. Are the Williamsburg Link buses a fast alternative to the L or a tour bus—or both? Read our guide to get familiar with the route and the neighborhood. Survey says: L customers don't (generally) plan ahead when taking a "normal route." Find the full survey results below.

Have a question? Ask us online...or in person! Our team will be out at stations along the L this weekend doling out personalized trip-planning advice. See you there.

Williamsburg Link buses: Tour of Williamsburg or shuttle?

The Williamsburg Link buses—the B91 and B92, respectively—will run nights and weekends while we do the L tunnel rehabilitation work. On weekends, the buses will come every 3 to 5 minutes for the majority of the day. In the evenings and on weeknights, the buses will be every 5 minutes or so from 8 to midnight, and every 10 minutes during the overnights. The routes are designed to get you to a subway stop for the fastest possible trip to and from Williamsburg (likely faster than waiting for the L when it's only running every 20 minutes).

As we've been testing out the routes, we noticed that in addition to their speediness (longest time between stops is just a 5 minute trip), they hit several hot spots you can visit on your way to or from the train.

Take a look at our guide to get familiar with the route (numbers are in order of the stops the bus will make):

What to do if you have a few hours in Williamsburg on nights and weekends and also like to ride buses

B91

Stop 1. Marcy Av Station at Williamsburg Bridge Bus Plaza:
Buy a ticket to an art gallery with diverse shows and events at the Williamsburg Art & Historical Center (see photo here).

Stop 2. Metropolitan Av-Lorimer St Station on Union Ave at Metropolitan Ave: The weather is getting warmer, and Macri Park has a patio. Too early? Sugarburg has an espresso bar.
Stop 3. Bedford Av Station on Driggs at North 6th St: Williamsburg has a reputation for vintage, and Mother of Junk is a thrifter's paradise. Tip: don't miss the artwork on the second floor.

Stop 4. Marcy Av Station at Williamsburg Bridge Bus Plaza: See #1. Note that the bus takes a break at the terminal as this is the end of the loop.

B92

Stop 1. Marcy Av Station at Williamsburg Bridge Bus Plaza:
See #1 above.

Stop 2. Bedford Av Station on Bedford at North 5th St: Crif Dogs is open late-night if you need a snack. Daytime, we think Woops! Bakeshop has the best macarons around.
Stop 3. Metropolitan Av-Lorimer St Station on Metropolitan Ave at Union Ave: Check out Rocka Rolla for its jukebox and pinball machines, then see the team at Kellogg's Diner for a stack of pancakes at any hour in one of the few classic diners left in New York City (opened in 1928!).

Stop 4. Hewes St Station at Hooper St and Broadway: Turn the corner up South 5th Street and take in some nature from the picnic bench at Hooper Grove, a 2,300 square foot community garden (see photo).

Survey: More than 1/3 of us don't plan a route when taking a "regular" trip

With the coming service changes, we know planning ahead is going to be super important. So we did a survey to find out just how many L customers do plan ahead, what alternative transportation options you use and what kinds of information you use to plan.

The headline for us (see above bar chart): when respondents set out on what they call a "routine trip," about 1/3 assume there is normal service and don't check any information source ahead of time.

We've all been there 😬. But we need to change this mindset come April 26. Tell your friends. In the meantime, click the button below for the full report or browse these highlights:
  • 80% of people know about planned service changes in advance of making a trip (26% know but forget to plan ahead until they arrive at the station).
  • If people do plan for a trip, 63% plan the day of the trip.
  • Top two reasons people don't choose our alternate service: "other modes seem faster" and "other modes seem more reliable."

Glamour shot of the week: Broadway Junction Station

We finished the Broadway Junction work we mentioned last week, so we did a photoshoot. Two stairways were relocated and two new ones were constructed connecting the J/Z platform to the mezzanine.

Reminder: No overnight L service between 8th Av and Lorimer St

We're finishing some of our projects that will help make the L more reliable for the long-term. This includes installing signal equipment.
