Assist us mercifully with your help, O Lord God of our salvation, that we may enter with joy upon the contemplation of those mighty acts, whereby you have given us life and immortality; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Almighty and everliving God, in your tender love for the human race you sent your Son our Savior Jesus Christ to take upon him our nature, and to suffer death upon the cross, giving us the example of his great humility: Mercifully grant that we may walk in the way of his suffering, and also share in his resurrection; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

This Sunday is Palm Sunday: the Sunday of the Passion. Two stories of the first Holy Week weave together in our liturgy. We begin with Jesus' triumphant entry into Jerusalem and end with his death. This year, we are reading from Luke's gospel. Luke is the only gospel writer who does not include the word "hosannah" in his Palm Sunday narrative, perhaps translating the word as "praise to God" for readers that he thought were unfamiliar with this Hebrew word. Luke's Passion is also unique in its own ways: we hear Jesus forgiving those who killed him, for they knew not what they did; Jesus promises to the penitent thief that he will be with him in Paradise; and finally, as he dies he offers his spirit audibly into the hands of God.

Each Eucharist on Sunday begins with the Liturgy of the Palms. At 8:00 we will begin in the church. Weather permitting, we will begin at 10:00 on the front lawn of the church. Please gather at the front entryway, in front of the Memorial Garden, and on the sidewalk. If the weather is inclement, we will begin in the Common Room and process upstairs. In either case, please proceed to the pews of the church (as you normally would do for the beginning of the service) during the Processional Psalm.

Children should remain with their parents for the Liturgy of the Palms. Children are included in the Liturgy of the Palms through the processional hymn and collect. They will be dismissed just before the Old Testament reading and will return at the Peace.

Adult Forum concludes our Lenten series the Seven Last Words. This week, Fr. Dan will explore the phrase, "Mother, behold your son; son, behold your mother."

Words for Lent During Lent, Christian Ed and Outreach are partnering on this devotional drive. Purple folders are available at the church for families to use, with a different word each week. Outreach is collecting children’s books to support the Literacy Program at Saint Stephen’s Youth Program (“SSYP”) in Boston. Please donate any remaining books into the collection box in the Common Room, and we will deliver this treasure trove to SSYP after Easter!

Each year, we solicit donations for Easter Flowers. You may honor or remember someone special to you, and these memorials and honoraria will be included in our Easter bulletin. We rely on the generosity of the whole parish to underwrite the flowers each year at Easter, so please give generously. Envelopes for donation are at the back of the church.

Adult Forum in Lent

The Seven Last Words of Christ are the collection of sayings of Jesus during his crucifixion. For two millennia they have captured the hearts and minds of Christians, as we make sense of his dying words. During Lent, we will approach these words from different perspectives, understanding them in their own ancient context as well as in our own.

Join us Wed., April 17 at 6:00 pm, for a special Agape Supper. We enjoy the table- based, communal setting of the Last Supper. Bring first-century, Mediterranean food to share.
