Invitées par le Festival des arts imprimés de Montréal à réfléchir sur l’art imprimé, la plateforme d’art en ligne Galerie Galerie présente Marge normale I & II, un projet Web qui s’inscrit dans une interprétation de la reproduction à l’ère de l’Internet.

Par son volet double, l’installation en ligne considère le médium sous l’angle de la multiplication des oeuvres et de leur circulation implicite, à la manière du copier-coller et de la dissémination massive des fichiers. D’une part, en invitant le public à télécharger librement des images de type PNG et JPEG, et d’autre part, en mettant en vente des oeuvres d’art numériques en éditions limitées. Si bien que le projet prend racine dans une, voire des définitions(s) déconstruite(s) de la pratique, c’est-à-dire ancrée(s)s dans des procédés propres au numérique. La « marge », qui délimite l’impression et l’imprimé dans leur forme tout comme elle définit aussi ce qui est et ce qui est autre, est envisagée ici comme « normale », dans cette volonté de réfléchir à la fois le geste et l’idée. Le fichier originel quant à lui, est traité selon les préceptes qu’imposent le Web, soit tant dans sa forme la plus libre que dans son contexte le plus légiféré.

Invited by Montreal Printed Art Festival to reflect on the printed art, the online art space Galerie Galerie presents Marge normale I & II, a Web project that fits into an interpretation of reproduction in the era of the Internet. By its two sections, the online installation considers the medium in terms of the multiplication of works and their implicit circulation, in the manner of copy-paste and mass dissemination of files. On the one hand, by inviting the public to freely download PNG and JPEG images, and on the other hand, by selling digital works of art in limited editions. This way, the project takes root in one or more deconstructed definitions of the practice, that is to say anchored in digital methods. The «margin», which delimits the impression and the print in their form just as it also defines what is and what is other, is considered here as «normal», in this desire to reflect both the gesture and the idea. The original file is processed according to the precepts imposed by the Web, both in its freest form and in its most legislated context.
