Fibromyalgia and Related Conditions
Support Group - Golden Valley, MN

For anyone concerned with FM, ME/CFS,
EDS, IBS, Lyme, Pain, POTS, TMJ, and others.
Dear All,

A friendly reminder for our upcoming meeting! It is on this Saturday (4/13). The blizzard snow should be over by then.  We will have a guest speaker, Julie Neraas. She is a member of our group. Julie will discuss how she translates what it feels like to have ME/CFS to other people; by using metaphors and images, and by drawing on two stories from her book, Apprenticed to Hope: A Sourcebook for Difficult Times.

Here is the agenda of this meeting.

Her presentation will be in the first section (10:00 AM) and we will have personal sharing and support in our second session (11:30 AM) after the break.

More detail about our guest speaker:

Speaker: Julie Neraas

Topic: Shipwreck - The Impact of Chronic illness On The Bigger Life Questions.

Julie Neraas is an ordained minister (Presbyterian), spiritual director, and public speaker. For 27 years as an Assistant Professor at Hamline University, she taught in a lively graduate program and during the last 6 years taught religion to undergraduates. Julie was a chaplain at Macalester College, the University of Minnesota, and St. Mary’s Treatment Center. She worked with teenagers and then adults struggling with drug and alcohol addiction at St. Mary’s. Julie was a minister in four churches. In these roles, she had the privilege of listening in on peoples’ lives when they were dealing with a crisis or a big challenge. These circumstances often rearrange everything and may cause people to redraw “maps" of their sense of meaning, view of the world, and sense of the Divine (or no sense of the Divine). When ME/CFS came roaring into Julie’s life 24 years ago, she redrew her own “maps”.

  • Due to the multiple sensitivities of our members, we ask that all participants refrain from wearing perfumes or strong scents when attending our meetings.

  • And remember, you are welcome to join us at any time during meetings. You're only late if everyone has left! Likewise, honor your energy levels and feel free to leave whenever necessary.

  • If you're unable to join, please join us on our facebook group instead to get the support you may need and to be surrounded by the people who understand you.

SPECIAL NOTE: These changes (two sessions) for Saturday meetings have been made to better accommodate our visiting speakers, all of whom come to us as volunteers, donating their time, effort, and energy on our behalf. As always, we will remain flexible with timing so that in the future, guest speakers may choose to present during the first or second session. Hence, personal sharing and support may occur in either session, depending on speaker preference. In addition, members now have the option to attend one or both sessions on Saturday. We welcome you to join us as you are able.

Take good care of yourself. The blizzard snow shall come and goes. We will recover and enjoy our beautiful spring colors soon. Many of us are in (extra) pain and (extra) fatigue; it is a rough week. Please know that you're not alone. There are over 70 people reading this email along with you. Let's all send positive energy and healing thoughts to friends who are also reading this email right now. Gentle hugs to you all. :)

Stay cozy,
Cat
