A Note from the Executive Director
|
|
I wish you could've been here the other evening...the House was "humming"! I'll try to describe to you what I mean...
There was a guest making hamburgers at the stove, for anyone who wanted one. He was taking orders like a "short order cook". He said it was great to be able to give back.
There was a small group of guests playing a game of cards at the table. They did not know each other at the beginning of the day, but found common ground over a card game and a few reasons to laugh together! This was great stress relief after a long day at the hospital.
Another guest was helping a couple with their toddler, entertaining him with a game of "peek-a-boo" while the parents prepared their supper.
YOU helped build this house, a building. Yet, on evenings like this one, it really feels more like "home". And THAT is our goal. People supporting each other through rough times. An environment that is conducive to encouraging community, family.
ALL of our guests are here for reasons they did not plan. ALL of our guests are experiencing extreme stress. It was so good to listen to the chatter in the kitchen, the card game, the laughter, the gratefulness expressed by guests to other guests...for the hamburger, the hug, the distraction. YOU, our donors, make this possible.
Thank you.
Judy

A team of volunteers from Greenleaf Hospitality Group had great fun as they prepared a delicious dinner for our Burdick Street guests on March 19.
Home-cooked meals are always a welcome treat. If you, or your group or organization are interested in this activity, please call Judy, at the Burdick Street House, 269-341-7811, or Sherry, at the Henson Avenue House, 269-488-3250, to schedule a day.
