Sustainability in Tring Discussion and Town Council
All welcome to our discussion on sustainability in Tring on Wednesday 15th May 8 pm High St Baptist Church (upstairs room or rear hall, depending on numbers) followed by short AGM.
TinT ideas on sustainability for integration into Town Plan have been very well received by the Town Council (see below re Mayor's Covenant on Climate Change).
Tring and Mayor's Covenant on Climate Change
A passionate case for Tring signing up to the Mayor's Covenant on Climate Change was well received by Tring Council's Environment Committee when it was made by a founder member of Tring in Transition, Veronica Allan, last Monday evening. The Committee was especially taken with Veronica's point that climate change is about our children and grandchildren (see next item for recent report on that issue).
This led to the Mayor, Cllr Penny Hearn, asking TinT co-opted representative on the Committee, Barr Kazer, and Veronica, to join her, and representatives of Tring's Youth Council, on a small group to determine what steps Tring can take to cut its carbon footprint by 40% by 2030 to achieve the target of the Mayor's Covenant.

The garden is really coming to life now. Blossom is appearing on the trees and the rhubarb is going wild!
We are planning to hold an open day as part of Tring's Spring Fayre at our following gardening day on May 12th 10.00 - 13.00. The idea is to encourage more people to come and visit/help at the garden. We are planning to have plants and seeds available either as a swap or for a small monetary donation. More details to follow, but if you have any spare plants or packets of seeds you would be happy to give us, please get in touch - many thanks. Especially plants/seeds that provide food for people or are good for pollinators.

Solar PV after FIT can still give 8% return
If you, or anyone you know, is still mulling over solar PV, then this recent report might be just what they are looking for.
In case you missed it, the Chancellor recently announced an intention to prohibit the use of gas for heating in new houses from 2025. No, this isn't a late "April Fool" it is actually true. It will put a strong emphasis on low carbon forms of energy in new houses. It will be interesting to see how the Dacorum Local Plan takes this on board ....
