ASTROLOGY of the DAY

Saturday • 13 Apr 2019

We are dealing with challenges around power and structure this week-end. We may want to reorganise closets, foundations, finances, and governmentLast-minute changes can help us celebrate and engage interesting new energies. Look for experiences that encourage one to step out of a personal comfort zone to be seen, or tackle a small personal challenge that empowers. There are big changes in store on Saturday as the Sun squares off with power planet Pluto, pushing us to confront the dark truth. As the Sun challenges Pluto, we are face-to-face with something that we likely weren’t supposed to see, but now must make a change to resolve.

With the Moon in Leo harmonising with other fire-sign planets, you may sense (or seek) a little extra purpose to your socialising today. Who in your world is sparking joy ?

We may find ourselves in a power struggle if we succumb to the impulsivity of the illuminating Aries Sun that squares compulsive Pluto in the early morning hours. Best to make every effort to avoid confrontations today.

Jupiter is the planet of expansion, and its retrograde — which begins on 10 April and ends on 11 August — is an opportunity to pause and reflect on how much we have raked into our lives since the new year. From 8 November last year, Jupiter in Sagittarius has allowed us to take risks, go out of our comfort zone when necessary and remain optimistic about life. However, this retrograde will bring a sudden slowdown. Regardless of the growth area a person has to work on, and regardless of its importance, additional time will be needed in order to make sure that everything is in right order before continuing. It will be time for us to re-assess our progress in the past months and think about how we will plan the future. Did we reach the position that we planned to reach ? Or did we overestimate and, thus, failed to deliver ? The next four months are the time to go back and assess everything in a better way now. Start developing necessary structure and, if needed, ask for support. And as Sagittarian energy will be high, try to take up reading and learning more to become more specialised in whatever you want to do.

cranky but efficient spurt early in the week, then the week ends with a few sparks and an influx of gumption as Mercury enters direct and feisty Aries, our thinking clears and we tell it like it is. Or like we think it is at the moment.

The Moon enters thoughtful, critical thinking Virgo. Relationships get thrown on the back burner for a few days as work takes precedence. Logistics can cramp our relational style, which is great for work but we might need to consciously practice kindness.

Mercury enters Aries on Wednesday for the next few weeks and wakes up our mind. We may develop a puppy-like attention span, but could wake up out of a hazy trance and sense of overwhelm that’s been hovering since 10 February when Mercury first entered Pisces. The trick will be to simplify our situation without oversimplifying and missing a more complex truth.

APRIL
(including Wow & Whoa days)

April is a time of sharp contrasts. So buckle up as we will all experience a surge of changes. We will feel rejuvenated and open our minds to new ideas. We will feel that our lives have just taken a fresh turn for the best. The month of April is full of manifesting opportunities, healing, as well as becoming more watchful of the direction that we are pushing ourselves in.

The first week of April is likely to be a quite confusing time. The intense transformational cycles of this spring continue into April, and seem to present opportunities along the lines of resolution of existing issues, or at least a partial resolution, as we move forward into greater wholeness.

There’s an exceptionally confusing planetary pairing as we begin April, in many ways a continuation of the intense transformational thrust of March. Mercury in dreamy Pisces again exactly conjuncts spacey and often foolish Neptune during the first two days of the month. The first few days will see further evidence of vague ungroundedness, idealism and illusion, and questioned perceptions. While these two planets, quite opposite in nature, hang out together, errors in thinking and judgment are likely. Communication problems also may be common. Make sure to double-check important details and realise that some will avoid the truth or greatly exaggerate the facts during the first week of April.

The end of the first week of the month of April is filled with positivity and opportunities to commence new beginnings. Our experiences this first week of the month will give us a good idea of what we will be working with throughout the next thirty days. The repercussions of our actions (or inactions) can no longer be ignored.

Mercury will continue to swim on in watery Pisces until 17 April when the messenger planet will finally enter Spring sign Aries. This is a very late date for Mercury to get out of Winter sign Pisces and suggests late freezes and Winter weather holding on later than usual this year. If you’ve been confused about a matter as the month opens and hoping for some clarity in your thinking, this shift into Aries is likely to give you a fresh blast of mental energy which can help you make the right decision and see the facts.

Additionally, Venus is transiting Pisces since 26 March until 20 April and bringing an explosion of emotions and sensations with love and feelings growing deeper and stronger. It’s all about love, passion and the ability to see our dreams come to a reality. Regardless of specific relationship status, there is always a need to balance our own wants and needs with others. We will naturally be willing to work together better with another — not that we will sacrifice our own wants and needs, but in a relationship we have to be willing to compromise at times, and in Pisces this will be easier.

The New Moon will take place in Aries, the fire sign, on 5 April. April brings us back in charge with Aries, the sign which represents action. Aries is a sign that not only wants us to concentrate on our goals, but it also makes sure that we act towards it over the next couple of weeks. Make sure that you are not directing your energy into something that is tedious and monotonous. Choose something that you are excited about and go for it. Impulsiveness, becoming short-tempered, frustration and getting angry are likely as well – do not let these traits consume you. Don’t get hostile – try to be productive with this fiery energy. Physical energy will also be high, so try to use it, too, to deal with impulsive behaviour and temper.

This New Moon will be a wonderful time for you to start something new. Or if you have a wish and you wanted to do it for a long time, then this New Moon is the time to manifest it into actionsSetting goals and manifesting ideas should be undertaken during this powerful period by putting thought into the energy that you feel should be in your life, as well as what you would like to manifest for the year ahead of you.

This period of time is also ideal to make sure that your finances are in order. Now is the time to try tapping into the abundant energy that the Universe presents to you. It certainly is ideal in taking a legitimate and practical approach to consolidate as well as manage your money.

A few outer planets turn retrograde and will stay in retrograde for the coming months. There are several things working in the background for a giant cosmic performance in the year of 2020. Giant leaps are in order for 2020 with these planets in the background moving into alignment in order to make all things fall where they belong. This energy change is going to make us feel as if we are readying ourselves to begin something new. The planets will lend cosmic energy to slow down, with us having to revisit specific things as well as issues which need to be put to restAs we near 2020, and the powerful societal transformation that is indicated by the triple conjunction of Saturn, Jupiter and Pluto, in square with Eris, we will see if this month’s increased awareness might provide a blueprint for the future.

On 11 April Jupiter begins to Rx. Jupiter rules expansion — be careful not to go overboard in the months ahead.

Pluto will also begin to back up on 24 April. Pluto rules the process of healing and transformation — notice where we can improve and heal the area of life signified by the house he is transiting through.

Saturn follows turning Rx on 29 April. Saturn rules responsibilities and ambitions — time to review choices, actions, and how well we are fulfilling your mission.

On 13 April, the Sun is going to conjunct Eris, the one which is out for some blood on the Kurdah, the dark king. Eris is kind of like the Goddess Kali, powerful, resentful and vengeful. This T-square seems quite dangerous.

The Full Moon in Libra occurs 19 April. Full Moons in Libra generally are a time for us to come together. We will start to make compromises and adjustments to help our relationships grow and we will deal with the issues that keep us apart from one another. It is all about growing strong together and letting go of people who bring negativity into our lives. Libra wants peace and it will strive to bring harmony within friends and family to get that peace.

As the second Full Moon in Libra following the one on 20 March, what we faced during the March Full Moon will come to pass yet again in the April Full Moon. It marks a kind of continuation of themes. What may have been left unresolved in the March Full Moon will get its final resolution in the Full Moon in April. If there are issues that need addressing in relationships, this is the ideal time to resolve those. So, this is a great ending for the Full Moon and it will bring about a culmination of different energies enabling us to complete our objectives fast. But when so many energies coming at us, it might knock us down. We have to stay focused and try to bring the energies under control.

The April Full Moon will take place in the 29 degree of Libra. This is the anaretic (final) degree a sign, which is also the point of crisis energy. This is considered a problematic degree, indicating the “last chance” a planet has to get it right with the lessons of the sign that the planet has been occupying. Because the Sun is hesitating on the very brink of Scorpio, and for the Moon, of Taurus, this does bring the beginning of these signs into the picture. In particular, the presence of Uranus in early Taurus, Mercury and Chiron, the Wounded Healer, in early Aries, and Venus in late Pisces are all part of this quirky Full Moon configuration. Mercury makes a partile aspect to Uranus. We may well expect surprises, and surprise information, especially as we navigate our relationships and questions of aesthetics or money (Venus) and the consciousness of inner wounding (Mercury-Chiron). In dealing with Chiron issues, consciousness is more than half the battle. As a significant part of this month’s developmental cycle, the awareness of where we have been traumatised in the past, and where we may yet allow ourselves to heal, is therefore vital, especially in this latter part of the month.

On 20 April, we shift into Taurus Season changing the fiery energy of Aries Season to assist us in grounding ourselves. Make good use of this grounding Taurus energy in order to rejuvenate and relax.

The Moon trines sweet Venus in the afternoon on Easter Sunday, 21 April, making it likely to enjoy family, friends and the rest of the day, with the Moon in optimistic Sagittarius, is friendly and upbeat.

A significant astrological occurs on 30 April with the conjunction of Saturn and Pluto with the South Node, occurring in the sign of Capricorn. The planets Saturn and Pluto conjunct the South Node could be the purging of government and power structures. Eventually, it’s all about who has control over whom. The South Node often represents past trauma and things we only hold onto because they have turned into our comfort zone and give us that feeling of familiarity, even though we know they do us more harm than good. Right now, humanity is caught up in that bondage – and, somehow, we are oh so afraid of letting things, people and situations go. So, on the personal level, the conjunction of Pluto/Saturn/South Node will give some people a rude awakening in the house that it will fall.

VENUS IN PISCES

26 March ~ 20 April

Venus is transiting Pisces since 26 March until 20 April and bringing an explosion of emotions and sensations with love and feelings growing deeper and stronger.

For those who have already been in a significant relationship, we could see ourselves becoming more passionate and tender with our partners. Venus brings out the seductive side and turns the heat up a notch in the bedroom. Try to loosen up and allow yourself to be seduced. It will spice things up, especially for couples who have been together for a long time. With Venus entering Pisces there will be much more depth of emotion. It will intensify desires, and we can expect love to run deep and strong.

This all-embracing love will make it easy for us to understand and forgive, and we will show a lot more compassion towards others. We’re likely to fall in love, over and over again, with every beautiful being and thing we come in contact with. Venus in Pisces is tender and affectionate, although at times hard to reach, as there is a longing for something that is hard to define and hard to satisfy. Borders and boundaries blur. The shadow side of this position is allowing ourselves to be victimised or deluded, as well as evasiveness.

JUPITER RETROGRADE

10 April ~ 11 August

Jupiter is the planet of expansion, and its retrograde — which begins on 10 April and ends on 11 August — is an opportunity to pause and reflect on how much we have raked into our lives since the new year.

The retrograde of the planet Jupiter happens every thirteen months and lasts for four months. This will be quite a lot of retrograde energy since it is retreating through Sagittarius – its home sign. It won’t just be outspoken, this retrograde might turn out to be quite overwhelming, too. So, if you have been on an exaggerated spree, then get ready to have it called out. Try to keep it real. Your credibility matters, particularly over the next four months.

It is a time of spiritual and philosophical reflection and introspection. People may need to deal with specific problems which include development, growth, success, and happinessJupiter retrograde reflects a cycle when we should question and review our core beliefs to see whether they are still useful. If they are not, then take this as an opportunity to explore new beliefs and ideas that may resonate with who you are now.  This allows us to pursue life with more freedom and develop your true potential. We need to start thinking about growth and personal happiness.

Relationships or events can exacerbate problem areas in our lives during the retrograde of Jupiter. This retrograde, we need to remain focused more on romantic and personal relationships, for it might bring tendrils of jealousy, obsession, possession, and other potential relationship breakers. We could also be tested to ensure we are prepared to receive a new romance, good fortune, or increased wealth.

Destructive and inappropriate behaviour such as addiction or greed can get out of control. In such cases, the retrograde of Interventions or extreme events have to happen in order to shake people out of their ignorance and complacency. Jupiter retrograde offers the chance to notice, recognise, and then admit the issue. The Fixed Star Lesath in Sagittarius could give rise to danger and desperation, a loss of morals, and malevolent intentions.

But, it can also lead to growth in character while giving it a more incisive mind and a sharp wit. Needless to say, this retrograde period is well-suited for sportsmen, entrepreneurs, and standup comedians. An eye for detail, a keen insight into the workings of human behaviour coupled with wit would help anyone in the above professions and more.

Once Jupiter goes direct in August, people need to come to terms with every relevant problem and be prepared to keep going ahead towards happiness and success. So, plan how you want to reach your destination. Don’t let the past keep your trapped. Keep rationality intact and chart out the future.

JUPITER IN SAGITTARIUS

8 November 2018 ~ 3 December 2019

Jupiter, the planet of blessings and abundance, will enter her home sign of Sagittarius on 8 November for the first time in nearly 12 years. This is monumental in terms of you now having the support to achieve any and all of your pie-in-the-sky aspirations. There are no limits other than the ones you place upon yourself, and Jupiter in Sagittarius will help you erase those limitation lines like no other astrological event can. While Jupiter is in Sagittarius (8 November 2018 ~ 3 December 2019), our focus will be on self-improvement. You can be, do, and have anything you want. One of the keywords associated with Jupiter is luck, and when Jupiter transits one of your natal planets, good stuff can happen, and usually does; however, according to the mystical Kabbalah, luck is not given simply because of happenstance, luck happens because you are intuitive enough to notice opportunities and turn them into reality. In many ways, luck is our ability to leap from our secure porch of the now and have the certainty to leap into an unknown future.

URANUS IN TAURUS

15 May 2018 ~ 26 April 2026

A revolution is underway, a tearing down of old systems to allow for new and more resilient foundations to be built. We will likely see events that relate to our current experiences around 6 November 2018, and again around 6 March 2019, when Uranus again crosses the threshold between Taurus and Aries. Once every seven to eight years iconoclastic Uranus changes signs to revolutionise our lives. Uranus ingressing Taurus is all about disrupting the status quo and what has gotten stale, through new ideas, inventions and maybe even some revolutionary action. Since Taurus rules nature and is very security-minded and Uranus tends to cause instability, we would expect some natural events to manifest. We can also anticipate changes in financial matters and values in the years ahead. How we use money and what we find valuable will be revolutionised. During this transit, we must be ready and willing to change our relationship to money and materialism – we no longer have a choice. The changes we make during this period can actually help bring us to a point of greater stability, and can be very long-lasting.

CHIRON IN ARIES

18 February 2018 ~ 14 April 2027

Chiron’s sign changes often arrive with immediate shifts in the social climate and turning points in history. What may have seemed impossible in one moment of time is suddenly the thing that’s happening in another. Chiron was last in Aries from 1968-1977. Chiron moving into Aries is an eight-year phase of exposing and healing wounds related to that sign.

Chiron finally makes its first return to the sign Aries since 1977 along with the Sun having entered Pisces. As the Sun offers a unity sensibility and Chiron begins asking you to notice who you really are. You have the power to devote yourself to the healing you need, and to being the one who refuses to perpetuate the patterns that have hurt you. It may mean taking a little extra space for yourself in your life, but it's worth it. Chiron, known as the Wounded Healer, has the formidable task of both exposing and healing humanity's wounds and fears. As Chiron moves through Aries (until 2026-27), it will uncover and begin to heal wounds associated with a lack of self-confidence, with the fear that we don't have the right to be ourselves or to have what we desire, and with the tendency to revert to anger and aggression as a way of asserting ourselves. We will be uncovering old scars in these areas, and learning how to love the part of us that feels the pain of these wounds.

Ponder this ...

• Who in my world is sparking joy ?
• How can I simultaneously take care of myself and stay engaged in the tumultuous changes happening in the world at large ?
• Who am I in the face of these changes, and in the midst of the many changes I may feel called to make ?
• How can I be proactive rather than reactive ?

There are two questions we must ask ourselves : The first is 'Where am I going?' and the second is 'Who will go with me?' If we ever get these questions in the wrong order we are in trouble. ~ Sam Keen

Find, or be, the eye of the storm today.

Many energies are swirling and shifting over the next few weeks.

Let’s not be overreactive in the moment, but be prepared to be proactive in a way that moves forward but doesn’t push, that supports but doesn’t overwhelm or steamroll, that asks but doesn’t demand, that shifts but doesn’t cause the foundation to crumble.

Adjustments are necessary, but take time and don’t try to change, move, make everything happen at once.

What may seem shocking in the moment could actually just be a revelatory surprise. Let’s not speak or react in the moment. Wait to see and understand the larger picture and what more information and/or additional thought processing actually reveals about the situation and how we can make the best or most of it rather than assuming doom and gloom.

The week-end brightens under an enthusiastic and sociable Leo Moon. While it may bring out the grandstanding energy in some, most of us will just feel called out of our introverted winter caves and want to connect. The Moon's shift into playful Leo encourages us to seek the sunny side of the street and the lighter side of life. The Moon enters roaring Leo and then makes a square to rebellious and unpredictable Uranus this morning giving the day more luck and enthusiasm. The Moon makes a sextile to eager Mars at 4.13p and then sails out into quiet waters for the rest of the day and night.

Nevertheless, uncovering hidden fears leads us back into the warmth of positive feelings. Overnight events or dreams could have a haunted quality, worries come up as the Sun squares Pluto. Although Saturday will be troublesome with the Sun forming a difficult square to Pluto, Sunday should see our mood lighten when the Sun trines Jupiter.

How can you simultaneously take care of yourself (and the other people, animals and things close to you) and stay engaged in the tumultuous changes happening in the world at large ? Who are you in the face of these changes, and in the midst of the many changes you yourself may feel called to make ? These might be the sorts of questions pushing into consciousness today, as the Aries Sun moves into exact alignment with the Pluto-Eris square (with Saturn and other change-related points and objects nearby). You may find that the more you can answer those questions through direct, non-digital contact with others, the more you’ll relieve any sense of tension that’s been brewing — at least, on the personal level.

ASTROLOGY of the WEEK

A potentially beautiful weekend to get out and about. Our consciousness returns to work in time for last-minute taxes and a cranky but efficient spurt early in the week, then the week ends with a few sparks and an influx of gumption as Mercury enters direct and feisty Aries, our thinking clears and we tell it like it is. Or like we think it is at the moment.

The question of our era is around how power and control are used, how can we empower the individual and restrain the misuse of controlling power over others as Saturn and Pluto conjunct in structural Capricorn over the next few years. This question is amplified every time the Sun, Moon, or faster moving planets stimulate this conjunction, as the Sun and Moon do this week-end and the next. We can ask ourselves some healthy questions around personal empowerment to be our best self.

The Moon enters thoughtful, critical thinking Virgo. Relationships get thrown on the back burner for a few days as work takes precedence. Logistics can cramp our relational style, which is great for work but we might need to consciously practice kindness.

Mercury enters Aries on Wednesday and wakes up our mind. We may develop a puppy-like attention span, but could wake up out of a hazy trance and sense of overwhelm that’s been hovering since 10 February when Mercury first entered Pisces. For the next few weeks Mercury in Aries encourages us to speak up, speak first and consider later; we’ll need to add patience and tact. The trick will be to simplify our situation without oversimplifying and missing a more complex truth.

APRIL 2019

Wow Days
7, 10, 14, 21

Whoa Days
1, 2+, 13, 27+

April is a time of sharp contrasts. The planetary events this month are most likely to make us aware of issues that are at the heart of current challenges. We are also called to become more heart-centred in how we approach those concerns. It is also ideal to take a step back and see what kinds of people surround us.

The first week of April is likely to be a quite confusing time. Mercury finally leaves its retrograde shadow on 17 April, having entered Aries quite late on the previous evening, and this indicates another shift in the psychic weather. This current month also finds trickster Uranus very much highlighted, especially in the timing of the 19 April Full Moon. With Uranus, Neptune, Pluto, and Eris continuing to dominate the astrological airwaves, major structural change is still very much upon us. This means in summary that the intense transformational cycles of this spring continue into April, and seem to present opportunities along the lines of resolution of existing issues, or at least a partial resolution, as we move forward into greater wholeness.

There’s an exceptionally confusing planetary pairing as we begin April, in many ways a continuation of the intense transformational thrust of March, although Mercury is now in direct motion, and slowly recovering. The first few days will feel very much like Mercury never even turned around, because of a unique circumstance: in the waning days of the previous month, Mercury in dreamy Pisces again exactly conjuncts spacey and often foolish Neptune during the first two days of the month. We will see further evidence of vague ungroundedness, idealism and illusion, and questioned perceptions.

Whatever Pluto has revealed, Saturn brings into sharp relief. In essence, this is the energy of April. It will be strong throughout the month, but especially this first week when Pluto aligns with the South Node, and again in the last week, when Saturn exactly aligns with the South Node on the 30th. April is the time when the Aries New Moon occurs, so it is vital to make good use of all the abundance that April offers.

Mercury will continue to swim on in watery Pisces until 17 April when the messenger planet will finally enter Spring sign Aries. This is a very late date for Mercury to get out of Winter sign Pisces and suggests late freezes and Winter weather holding on later than usual this year. Mercury rules the winds, influences our weather patterns, and normally enters Aries in mid to late March. If you’ve been confused about a matter as the month opens and hoping for some clarity in your thinking, this shift into Aries is likely to give you a fresh blast of mental energy which can help you make the right decision and see the facts without the cloudy idealistic influence of Neptune.

The New Moon will take place in Aries, the fire sign, on 5 April. The Aries New Moon makes close aspects with Neptune, including the Sun being contra-parallel to Neptune within one tenth of a degree.

April brings us back in charge with Aries, the sign which represents action. Aries is a sign that not only wants us to concentrate on our goals, but it also makes sure that we act towards it over the next couple of weeks. Aries is full of vibrant energy and so we can’t let it go to waste – make sure that you are not directing your energy into something that is tedious and monotonous. Choose something that you are excited about and go for it; however, Aries energy can be a bit too wild and if you focus on something for a long period of time, you might lose concentration.

Or if you have a wish and you wanted to do it for a long time, then this New Moon is the time to manifest it into actions. It’s a New Moon that asks us to challenge our self-doubt by being thoughtfully responsible to all that we have committed to by demonstrating the transformational nature of being discerning, deliberate, and unwilling to be halted by unfounded fears.

Setting goals and manifesting ideas should be undertaken during this powerful period by putting thought into the energy that you feel should be in your life, as well as what you would like to manifest for the year ahead of you. Aries brings you all the courage that you need, but this energy must be channelled into something interesting that will keep us focused and dedicated. All that is required is to choose and act and move forward in your goals. You can make this thing happen. Believe in yourself. Make sure that you think about your goals clearly and uplift your vibrational frequency to attune with positive energy and broaden your horizons. All these will be beneficial to attain and construct the best things that you wish for.

This period of time is also ideal to make sure that your finances are in order. Now is the time to try tapping into the abundant energy that the Universe presents to you. It certainly is ideal in taking a legitimate and practical approach to consolidate as well as manage your money. But stepping out of the mindset of scarcity can be an important step in order to live a better life. During the course of this month, be mindful about the thoughts that your brain has about money. Put your best foot forward to change the fear of never amassing enough and transform your mind to have gratitude for what you have.

Eris, too, remains prominent, being in partile square with Pluto in Capricorn, trine Jupiter and contra-parallel the Moon in the Aries New Moon of 5 April. This implies that cosmic pressure is upon us to speak out, and to act, in accordance with our most sincerely held values.

The planets will lend cosmic energy to slow down, with us having to revisit specific things as well as issues which need to be put to rest. These longer-lasting retrogrades will be helping us review certain areas of our lives over the course of many months (the specific areas can be identified by the houses that these planets are transitiing in your chart) They pull focus over the course of seasons rather than weeks, giving us time to adjust, understand, and integrate their specific lessons.

The Retrograde parade begins on 11 April when Jupiter begins to Rx.

There’s nothing unusual about these Rx cycles as they occur every year. And that’s the idea — be a bit more cautious with matters ruled by each planet when they are backing up.

This full moon’s influence is part of longer lasting pattern and therefore more impactful to work with. As the second Full Moon in Libra following the one on 20 March, what we faced during the March Full Moon will come to pass yet again in the April Full Moon. It marks a kind of continuation of themes. What may have been left unresolved in the March Full Moon will get its final resolution in the Full Moon in April. This moon will generate heated tension around us. So it is ideal to take a pause and think before uttering anything. Especially when dealing with people that are close to us. During Full Moons, there is good clarity surrounding things. So, in case there are issues that need addressing in your relationships, this is the ideal time to resolve those.

On 22 April, Uranus and the Sun meet. With the alignment of the Sun and Uranus, the Sun shall absorb insight and wisdom and, as a result, bathe us in the knowledge that it has gained.

Transformational Pluto is also quite prominent in these April skies, maintaining the connection with nearby Saturn of a mere ¼ degree. This indicates conservative empowerment and major structural change. This latter is an important component of what must happen in the culture, if global society is to confront the challenge of looming climate change and be at last able to deal with it. As we near 2020, and the powerful societal transformation that is indicated by the triple conjunction of Saturn, Jupiter and Pluto, in square with Eris, we will see if this month’s increased awareness might provide a blueprint for the future.

A significant astrological occurs on 30 April with the conjunction of Saturn and Pluto with the South Node, occurring in the sign of Capricorn. The planets Saturn and Pluto conjunct the South Node could be the purging of government and power structures. The conjunct of the two planets represents even more excessive government control, surveillance and spying. Also, the police and military numbers are growing exponentially.

JUPITER IN SAGITTARIUS

8 November 2018 ~ 3 December 2019

Creating a life that is better than the one you have now

It’ll feel like a changing of the guard as Jupiter changes signs on 8 November. While Jupiter is in Sagittarius (8 November 2018 ~ 3 December 2019), our focus will be on self-improvement. You can be, do, and have anything you wantJupiter, the planet of blessings and abundance, will enter her home sign of Sagittarius on 8 November for the first time in nearly 12 years. This is monumental in terms of you now having the support to achieve any and all of your pie-in-the-sky aspirations. There are no limits other than the ones you place upon yourself, and Jupiter in Sagittarius will help you erase those limitation lines like no other astrological event can. He promotes expansion, education, legal solutions, travel, interaction with foreigners, sales and in some folks, bullshit. But the fire energy is uplifting and usually triggers an optimistic spirit on the street. Jupiter is the gambler in his home sign — he deals you aces in the house he travels through in your birth chart.

Sagittarius is a fiery sign that reflects future potentials and possibilities and is a sign closely linked to religious and philosophical thought. In many ways, Jupiter in Sagittarius is a double dose of Jupiter, because Jupiter rules the sign of the archer, and the need to find a higher or spiritual meaning to the vicissitudes of life is doubly potent. Additionally, we may see laws (Sagittarius rules legal matters) created based on the movements created during Jupiter in Scorpio including legislation related to sexual abuse, workplace harassment, sexuality, and perhaps, racial issues.

Jupiter in Sagittarius will lead many on a spiritual or philosophical journey to make sense of the difficulties and struggles you have experienced. Sometimes, if you can find a purpose for your suffering, your difficulties are easier to swallow, and recovery becomes possible. You may find interest in different forms of metaphysical modalities, especially ones related to the mind and mental programming. This will be a great time for intention-based work, as well as the use of affirmations or other self-affirming practices. Also, since Sagittarius rules higher education, this would be an amazing time to return to school or consider some form of a vocational program.

URANUS IN TAURUS

15 May 2018 ~ 26 April 2026

A revolution is underway, a tearing down of old systems to allow for new and more resilient foundations to be built. Uranus will be mostly in Taurus for the next seven to eight years, but its retrograde phase will take it back into Aries for a few months starting in November. We will likely see events that relate to our current experiences around 6 November 2018, and again around 6 March 2019, when Uranus again crosses the threshold between Taurus and Aries.

Once every seven to eight years iconoclastic Uranus changes signs to revolutionise our lives. The foundations are cracking under the tension as electric Uranus shifts into Taurus. Uranus values the element of surprise and refuses to be predicted. Instead of feeling overly nervous about what lies ahead, we need to keep in mind that the changes Uranus brings are in some way vital to our progress. They shake us up, propel us out of complacency, and shift mass consciousness as a way of accelerating our evolution. Uranus ingressing Taurus is all about disrupting the status quo and what has gotten stale, through new ideas, inventions and maybe even some revolutionary action. Although Uranus is considered a cultural or generational indicator, you can still watch for how it's showing up in your personal life and channel its energy as constructively as possible. Taurus tends to get attached, resist change, and try to stay comfy. So how can you integrate these two energies? Perhaps remind yourself that the only constant is change. Going with the flow can help; seeing your opportunities to do something differently and going for it – at a gentle pace – could be even more effective.

When an outer planet changes signs, it usually corresponds with important events in the world. Uranus, in particular, has the reputation for shaking up the status quo when it changes signs. Uranus, which takes 84 years to go around the zodiac. Last time Uranus was in Taurus 1934-1941, the New Deal turned the American economy and culture around, and the power structures of Europe changed. Over the next eight years we will be pushed to evolve our relationship to the world of matter : our bodies, our money, our resources, and our relationship to the earth. Because Uranus is an outer planet, the effects of its transit through Taurus will largely be seen on a global level -- but you'll certainly feel them personally, too. Even if we are resistant to the changes Uranus in Taurus brings, we have no choice but to go along for the ride, and, chances are, we'll realise in the end that these changes brought us to a much better place.

Since Taurus rules nature and is very security-minded and Uranus tends to cause instability, we would expect some natural events to manifest. We can also anticipate changes in financial matters and values in the years ahead. How we use money and what we find valuable will be revolutionised -- perhaps foreshadowed by the advent of bitcoins and the expansion of other electronic forms of money. Money is Taurus' main area of expertise, so while Uranus is in Taurus, we can expect some very revolutionary ways of handling and dealing with money, both nationwide and worldwide. During the seven years Uranus will spend in Taurus, brand-new forms of currency may arise, banks and banking could come to a halt or change dramatically, and the housing and stock markets may be in for a major shake-up.

On a more personal level, Uranus in Taurus encourages us to break free from the grips of money : debt, taxes, credit card interest, rent, and mortgages are all things that can prevent us from saving money or using it the way we want to. We may also feel trapped by our material possessions in general. During this transit, we must be ready and willing to change our relationship to money and materialism – we no longer have a choice. Uranus is here to liberate us, and digging in our heels and resisting won't make things any easier ... and won't stop these changes from happening. The changes we make during this period can actually help bring us to a point of greater stability, and can be very long-lasting.

CHIRON IN ARIES

18 April 2018 ~ 14 April 2027

Chiron’s sign changes often arrive with immediate shifts in the social climate and turning points in history. What may have seemed impossible in one moment of time is suddenly the thing that’s happening in another. Chiron began the  journey it’s just completed through Pisces in April 2010, a period that could be described by Prof. Eric McLuhan : The body is everywhere assaulted by all of our new media, a state which has resulted in deep disorientation of intellect and destabilization of culture throughout the world. In the age of disembodied communication, the meaning and significance and experience of the body is utterly transformed and distorted.

In this new chapter of our global rehabilitation, the intended result is the healing of masculine energy, which in its wounded forms manifests as bullying, combativeness, and violence. On individual levels, Chiron in Aries works in the areas of self-confidence and healthy assertiveness, helping us move beyond the need to become angry and aggressive to make ourselves seen. Chiron moving from Pisces to Aries is about taking responsibility for oneself. Chiron in Aries will expose the wounds to our personal identity. How well can we defend ourselves and our rights ? Are we able to express our needs with confidence that they will be met ? Do our own needs blind us to the needs and rights of others, making relationships difficult or impossible ? Can we manifest what we desire and feel confident in our own life adventure ? These are all questions that will be a focus while Chiron is in Aries.

The image of Chiron entering Aries is that of many people waking up at the same time, though what they wake up to will differ. One possibility is anger. There is no estimating the amount and depth of suppressed rage that is brewing underground in the collective psyche. This rage is bending and twisting all of emotion, resulting in some strange and unpredictable effects in society. It is important to remember that Chiron’s astrological role is to promote the integration of the body, mind, spirit system and to achieve balance in the body’s energetic framework. We can prepare for any Chiron event by doing a self-assessment to see how well our life patterns are supporting our health and ability to heal.

The effect Chiron will have in our individual lives will vary according to our individual birthchart. Those of us around age 50-52 who have Chiron in Aries natally will experience their Chiron return at some point in their lives, a time of reckoning when we experience some sort of healing crisis. This can be a clearing of emotional debris which manifests as a deeply emotional time, or it can be marked with a health crisis that necessitates a change in the manner in which we live our lives. Or it can be a positive time of self care and healthy living to prepare us for the next phase of our lives as we move towards the Saturn return. If we have planets in the cardinal signs (Aries, Libra, Cancer and Capricorn) we will experience a transit of Chiron to those points at some time in the next eight years.  Depending on the planet affected, we may find ourselves feeling triggered emotionally, or perhaps a loss of energy.

The time has come to return to speaking in « I-statements, » taking responsibility and ownership of our own experiences, and making a point to distinguish ourself from group identity. This may thrust many people into a kind of identity crisis, since so much of our identity is currently tribal, but struggling to be something else. Among the first-tier properties of Chiron is standing out, distinguishing oneself, and being different — pretty much no matter what the cost. When Chiron is present, it’s time to be a maverick. It’s pretty easy to hide by trying to blend in, though this comes at the expense of learning how to be yourself. Not being yourself means being someone else, which is not possible — so the crisis is something of an encounter with the reality gap.

2019 is going to sail us into completely foreign waters. Our world has well and truly changed – not changing. The shaking is set to continue, and (believe it or not) it is in our own best interests. 2019 will packed with frenetic episodes, energetic jolts of enlightenment, replete with the usual hard knocks and tough-love lessons for you romantics. It is not enough to simply hide out and 'meditate' your way into a better world. Sure mindful practices will help, but in the coming months we will be pressed to take some action. 2019 (and 2020) will be years in which our actions speak volumes. This includes our inaction which itself will produce effects like never before. Society itself is going through its own massive changes right now, the birth pangs of a more inclusive and equal-opportunity society that is still to come, and this is reflected in the strong Saturn-Pluto parallel which gets even closer over the next few months, peaking in March, and then again in August. Pluto with Saturn implies a draconian approach to social ills, and a re-forming of the society itself, and of the patterns of our individual lives. Earth oriented Haumea, operating in connection with trickster Uranus during the first half of the year pushes forward the theme of climate change. Other societal themes are likely to involve the illusions and idealisations of Neptune, quite prominent in these January skies, and beyond.

The overarching theme in 2019 has a lot to do with learning to create balance between having blind faith and grounding all of this remarkable idealism you find yourself swimming in. We move into the new year feeling as if the sky truly is the limit. There is, however, a subtle difference between living in la-la land and manifesting the destiny you know is within your grasp. In 2019 you get to master this fascinating lesson. In 2019 you can accomplish more than your wildest dreams envision as long as you keep your feet firmly planted on the ground as you reach for the stars. Remember, an arrow can only be shot by pulling it backward. If life drags you down with difficulties, it means it's going to launch you into something great. So just focus and keep aiming. That is the beauty of Jupiter in Sagittarius aligned with Neptune and Saturn linked to Neptune this year : practical magic. Use it well.

The Uranus/Neptune semisquares (2017-2020) lead us all deeper into the rabbit-hole of altered perceptions and soul-shock. We will be better served by serving our own inner light. Sooner or later we might have to take matters into our hands. Nobody is there to help if we don't show that we are keen to act for ourselves. In this sense, acting sooner, with a sense of urgency is absolutely imperative.

2019 starts out with Uranus finishing up his trek through Aries for good. Until 6 March he'll travel through the last degree of this sign, reminding us how to use our sense of independent, pioneering spirit in a way that is liberating without being reckless. Once Uranus enters Taurus on 6 March, he'll remain here through April 2026. The foundation of your life is bound to crack in some way in order to alert you to the fact that it's no longer serving as a solid base, but rather a suffocating boundary. Don't be afraid to reinvent yourself in terms of your values and your place in the material world. It's time.

Start the new year with a strong emotional foothold. In January, there are two eclipses. Often, the way that we commence a year sets a precedence for how the rest of the year will go.  Engage in actions during the eclipses so that you can harmonise with the planetary energies and uplift yourself. Be clear on what you wish to contribute to the world, activities in which you will partake, what you will forgo this year, and how you will design your life. Eclipses allow a deep time for spiritual reflection and introspection. Eclipses across the Cancer/Capricorn axis throughout 2019 amplify themes of family and security versus your reputation and place in the world. Many will begin new career paths at the Solar Eclipse in Capricorn on 5 January which aligns perfectly to Saturn in Capricorn. This eclipse means business and offers you the potential to move mountains. This solar eclipse will be a positive alignment with the balanced star Vega in the Lyra constellation and has a creative influence. The January solar eclipse conjunct with Saturn brings up a serious mood but the light energy of Neptune acts as a relaxant. It’s a great time to start a new business or for embarking on a creative journeya bit of kindness and charity will go a long way during this time.

A Lunar eclipse takes place in Leo on 21 January. It’s a passionate time and it will be affected by rebellious Uranus. Some unexpected news might create sudden consternation in you. It will be an anxious period and you will be uncertain about what the future might bring. On top of that, the lunar eclipse arrives at a place where there are only dim stars making no place for light. However, the Sun comes to the rescue aligned with brighter stars giving more courage during this tough time. Adaptability, patience and an open mind will help a lot during this period and will help us when new opportunities come our way.

Jupiter, the planet of exuberance and faith, moved into his home sign of Sagittarius back on 8 November 2018, and will remain here through 2 December 2019. This presents an incredible opportunity to believe in the possibilities of life in a way that you might not have in quite some time. While Jupiter was touring Scorpio, there was an intensity to your pursuit of happiness that sometimes felt heavy. Now that Jupiter is in Sagittarius, you look and feel lighter. In fact, you might notice that you're all smiles as the year begins.

Jupiter will square Neptune on 13 January, 16 June, and 21 September. Neptune might lead you to be hopelessly unrealistic about a situation and that may, ultimately, lead to disappointment. When others can't fulfill your pedestal version of them and they remind you that they are only human after all, it can be quite disenchanting. The same might happen if you're working on a project that you have high hopes for. If you're only working on faith and forget the brass tacks, the happy ending you're hoping for might never materialise. The days around this square are not the best time, but it will test your strength in the face of disappointment. You might be too optimistic during this time – more idealistic than in the real world. You might trust your romantic partner more than they deserve – you might even take risks based on your rose-tinted view of the world and fall flat. Your resources will no longer seem as safe and sound as you thought they were – so you have to take extra caution during this period.

Fortunately, the universe will provide a simultaneous opportunity for you to ground all of this idealism into something real – as long as you remember to keep your eyes open. Neptune will make a supportive sextile to stabilising Saturn on 31 January, 18 June, and again on 8 November. This impossible dream you have doesn't have to be unattainable. All you need to do is combine your vision with a solid plan. Let Saturn help you focus your blurry lens of naïveté that Neptune brings. Saturn sextile Neptune promises to bring material gains from your spiritual journey. You will now be more capable of pursuing your dreams. There will be limitations but the planet will feed you the right amount of optimistic energy needed to push you onwards and approach your dream in a realistic manner. Plus, you will be able to fit in your spiritual needs within this bigger picture of life. You might have to make sacrifices but that will be for your greater good. You will be more capable to help people follow their dream, too, with your spiritual support backing them up.

Seek wise counsel. For most of 2019, Jupiter will be in Scorpio in the nakshatra of Jyestha. Jupiter is archetypically a teacher or an advisor whom one looks to for proper guidance. Jupiter is called Guru in Sanskrit – the term for a spiritual teacher. Depending on what astrological house Jupiter will be transiting in your chart, this counsel may take the form of a spiritual teacher, a mentor, an attorney, an astrologer, an accountant, a doctor, a therapist, etc. For success in 2019 you can benefit from such advisors and stay on the path of dharma.

A quite interesting configuration is re-emerging in this January context, and growing stronger over the first few months of 2019. That is the partile or same-degree opposition of the  Eris/Uranus midpoint to Haumea, earth goddess energy of Profound Connection to Nature, and to natural law. Haumea is located at 26 plus degrees of Libra, opposite the midpoint in Aries, having reached it late last year, and is stationing retrograde there on 24 January. This brings renewed attention to earth changes, and to global warming as one super important issue. This is in fact likely to become the biggest agenda of the next decade. Perhaps it really is true, as a philosophical sage once remarked, that the best concept of freedom is to understand the direction that history is moving, and head that way.

Refine your skills in 2019 as Saturn will transit the nakshatra of Purva Ashadha in Sagittarius. This constellation believes in making oneself a better vessel. It allows us to improve our life circumstances by fine tuning our skills – whatever they may be. By adding to your repertoire,  you can extend a wider array of offerings to the world. 2019 is the year can contemplate how you can « build a better mousetrap ». This involves thinking more acutely and performing at your best. The motivation here is to be successful in all your endeavours. Practice patience. While you are polishing your skills, you must have composure. It’s time to put the drama aside and to have forbearance.  Don’t get distracted from your pursuits. When the going gets tough, be proactive and use the resources you have at hand. This is not the year to share all your complaints on social media.  However, 2019 is the year to be rewarded for your efforts if you give them proper time and attention.

Indulge in creative endeavours. Fun loving Rahu moves into Gemini in March. Gemini indicates the use of one’s arms, creativity, and the arts. Rahu hates routines more than anything else ! It wants to participate in new and exciting endeavours regularly. For example, take an art class, play an instrument, do creative writing, dance, or whatever will get your artistic juices flowing. Perhaps do something related to a foreign culture, to further satisfy Rahu’s cravings.

Take a trip abroad. With Ketu joining Saturn (through Sept 2020) in Sagittarius – the astrological house of foreign travel – you’ll want to heed the callings of your wanderlust. In addition, Saturn represents foreigners. Therefore, it’s the ideal time to learn about a new culture. You may benefit from a spiritual pilgrimage. This planetary pairing can take your meditation practices to greater depths.  On the other hand, if you are in the mood for something lighter, take a trip for leisure. See what you appreciate about the lifestyle and values of another culture and how you can incorporate these aspects to help you live a more aligned life.

A Solar Eclipse on 2 July in Cancer will oppose Saturn, asking you to let go of what you thought made you secure in order to become the master builder of your life. These themes continue through to the 16 July Lunar Eclipse in Capricorn (and into the eclipses at the end of the year). Uranus and a star present in Gemini Constellation will bring a lot of positive vibes and cement your friendships and relationships with sprinklings of good times. It’s a time when people will come together for peaceful negotiations. If you are open-minded and work hard, you can even accomplish what you dreamed of.

The Lunar Eclipse that will happen in Capricorn 16 July is a powerful one, happening in conjunct with intense Pluto. It will likely make you a bit emotional and there might be some crisis regarding power struggles. Eris, the dwarf planet that this eclipse will square, will strengthen the feminist attacks to destroy patriarchy. While there might be scandals and destruction of reputations, there will also be sympathy and understanding during this time.

The ending of the year will be great. Jupiter will trine Uranus on 15 December and bring exciting encounters into your life. Jupiter is expansive so you might want to go out of your comfort zone and start exploring the world more. You will feel the freedom to take more risks, expand your point of view and pick up new opportunities as they come in your way. You have to push boundaries and live in an expansive manner. There might be unexpected opportunities that come your way, and all of it can get you to a positive change that you need in the year.

A Solar Eclipse on 26 December in Capricorn conjunct Jupiter in Capricorn and trine Uranus in Taurus will be magical. Expect a sudden, material windfall to occur if you've done the work of securing your place in the world.

This next year is of course the prelude to 2020, and the Eris - Pluto square, already quite close, will then become still more prominent. We might expect both a radical empowerment of the extremely potent transformational energies represented by Uranus-Pluto, in square until 2020, and the rise of individualists following their own inner compass to the exclusion of all else, in a dedicated fight for what they most deeply espouse. This maverick energy fights for what it believes, possibly supporting odd-ball causes until it finds its actual centre. The rise of feminism, and of #MeToo/Time’s Up, and of women in politics are examples of the recent prominence of this Feminine Warrior rebellious energy emerging into the zeitgeist.
