MIFGS Feedback

It is a pleasure to share with you some feedback from the Melbourne International Flower & Garden Show held on 27-31 March which attracted over 103,000 visitors over five days.

Thanks indeed to the AAFBG and to you (John Bentley) for inviting us to take part in the display at the International Garden Show.   I know these things do not take place  without a lot of planning and  hard work.   We do appreciate your efforts and the opportunity to promote our own gardens.
Jill Grant, Friends of Australian BG, Shepparton.

What a thrill to see AAFBG so well represented at the Melbourne International Flower and Garden Show. See for yourselves in the photo I’ve attached. Friends of RBG Melbourne Gardens were instrumental in creating AAFBG and Cranbourne Friends hosted a conference in 2006 and I still have contact with people and Friends Groups which attended that conference. When I was President we had trouble producing a ‘Public Face’ for AAFBG. Well now, with John Bentley driving, Melton, Melbourne and Cranbourne Gardens were well represented and located beside an Open Gardens Victoria tent. Congratulations and well done to the Committee and all involved.
Alex Smart, Friends of RBG Cranbourne.

I thought that, for a first participation in MIFGS, everything went very well indeed. You and your AAFBG/Melton team did wonders preparing so much material and the marquee looked really interesting and attractive.  Clearly the many visitors who stopped by also thought so.  If it happens next year, I feel sure that the Cranbourne Friends would want to be involved again - and bring more varied visuals than we had time to prepare this time.  Again, congratulations from us all.
Helen Kennedy, RBG Cranbourne.

Hi John, Thank you for organising the marquee and the set up, you made it easy to just walk in and set up our display. It was well worth while being at the show and spending time talking to other garden enthusiasts. I certainly think we should be there with you next year, it is an important way to advertise all the Friends groups.
Helen Morrow, Cranbourne Friends

Thank you John and team for your work at the flower show promoting botanic gardens. We appreciate our being able to promote our gardens at such a big event.
Bev Rankin, Moama Echuca Botanic Gardens

From the IMG Events organiser: “It was a pleasure hosting you at the event & by all accounts from the team here a very well run & visited site that we would welcome back.”

And, finally from John Bentley, Vice-President AAFBG and event facilitator:
It was a pleasure and great working with all the volunteers from various groups.  We would appreciate any feedback on the experiences at the stand and if groups would like to participate again next year.  (I am happy to do the same organisation, set up, be there during show days and pack up again).
Thanks again John!

In response to BGCI's letter in relation to the "Rose Collections Survey" published in the last edition of E-ucalypt, Amanda Gauci, President of Friends of Gisborne Botanic Gardens shares the following in regarding Rose Rosette Virus.

Thanks for the notification.  I will forward it on to other gardeners to be aware of and report it through.  I might say from time to time I have seen occurrences both in Macedon and Gisborne.  I have been directed to cut off the offending section with know further treatment. This malformation did not become systemic, infact the plants recovered well and it was put down to stress from elongated season (summer with extended periods without rain) and in areas of the snow line in this area 460m up.  High stress and disease vulnerability for roses, hence not typically grown in the Hillstation gardens (though not many now exist in their original format).  Hope this is helpful.
