PTA Seeking Nominations for Board Members
The Abernethy PTA Board is seeking nominations for new members! Most PTA positions are 1 or 2 year terms, so every year is an opportunity for new people to get involved.
As PTA leaders, board members help nurture a school culture that reflects community priorities, so add your voice! Elections will be held at our PTA Community Meeting on May 16th at 6:30.
Job descriptions for the roles we are currently seeking to fill for 2019/20 can be found here. Please reach out to learn more or get connected with the person currently serving in a role!

Student Council Silverware Fundraiser
Dear Abernethy parents,
Recently student council has started a fundraiser for real, metal silverware in the cafeteria, instead of single use plastic. To start only using metal silverware we need about 600 more utensils (300 forks and 300 spoons).
We figured out that we use about 350 utensils a day every day of the school year (which is 173 days long). That means we use around 59,550 single use plastic forks and spoons throughout the year.
Plastic has become a big problem for our planet. There is a lot of plastic and most of it ends up in the ocean. Many sea creatures are dying because there is too much plastic in our ocean including whales, seals, sea otters, sharks and other fish.
In conclusion, our plastic silverware is contributing to the deaths of around 100 million sea mammal deaths every year.
We don’t have enough metal silverware to help reduce single use plastic usage in our school. You can help by donating either metal silverware or money to buy some more. We will start our fundraising on Earth Day, which is Monday April 22.
Please contribute,
The Student Council of Abernethy

Foundation Fundraising for Staff
Want to learn more about what "Foundation Fundraising for Staff" means at Abernethy?
Then please save the dates(s) for an opportunity to learn and discuss - April 22 and April 25 at 6:30pm.
In the first community meeting: we will come together with an outside facilitator's help to share these perspectives, along with background information, through productive, respectful conversation.
The second meeting: will be open for those who attended the first, to address any additional questions that may have arisen, and to possibly make recommendations on the extent to which we should budget for fundraising additional staff in the 2019/20 budget for the 2020-21 school year.
Can't make the meeting? No worries. We will reach out to the full community to gather additional input on this budget line item in advance of finalizing the full PTA budget proposal, which will be voted on by the community in the final PTA meeting of the year.
Any questions or comments can be directed to Carolyn Duran and Beth Cavanaugh.
