Then there's Breadwinners, a charity that provides training and jobs for refugees across their London farmers market stalls. They have two programmes:
BREADWINNERS PROGRAMME. Supports refugees who already have status and are struggling to find work with their first employment opportunities to independently sustain themselves and progress.
RISERS PROGRAMME. Provides early intervention support for young people (16-24yrs old) seeking asylum to gain UK work experience and receive mentoring so they are better integrated and prepared to gain employment when they receive status.
And Mike's Table's next event is on Friday 26th April at 7.30pm called Breaking Bread - a meal to share. They're venturing out east to a community hub and award winning bakery called Today Bread in Walthamstow. There will be 3 courses, made from surplus food, devised on the night by their fabulous chefs. Free tickets are available to HostNation befrienders and their friends. Email info@hostnation.org.uk if you'd like to go.
A couple of non-bread things that may also be of interest:
Kimiyaa is a new refugee charity based in London that organise matches between refugees and local professional mentors. It started in Germany and is now here. For example if someone is interested in programming they can find them a professional programmer to mentor them. They are working with the LSE and LBS to find student mentors. They are looking for participants - ideally young men and women of all ages. Contact eytan@kimiyaa.org for more info.
