President’s Message

It’s April and the weather is warming up and the flowers and trees are blooming (and allergy pills are a necessity).  It’s also getting close to the end of our fiscal year but there is still so much to do.  Fundraising is in full swing and our coordinator Kathy Yarbrough has been on top of it all.  We will need the help of our club members as well as our friends and community to bring forward our success.  Be sure to check out our Boots and BBQ fundraiser on May 31 and in June we will be selling fireworks on the week heading into the 4th of July.  Both need to be successful to raise the necessary funds critical for funding projects improving the lives of women and girls as well as our scholarships and Live Your Dream awards.

At our last business meeting, we approved the move of funds into the Los Rios Foundation to make sure that we can fulfill our support for scholarships.  Education is the center of our organization as we know that without an education it is very hard to improve your status in this world.  These funds were given to us by Isabel Swiden when she passed away who also knew how important an education means to young women and we want to continue to honor Isabel.  In the coming weeks we will be working with Los Rios Foundation to make sure we honor her wishes with the hopes of increasing those funds to give more scholarships in the future.

April is also the month of our annual region conference in Reno.  This conference is so important for learning more about our organization, meeting members from other clubs in California and Nevada, learning to be leaders, hearing from speakers on topics that matter to us, seeing the young women who will receive their Live Your Dream awards from our Federation and just plain fun.  If you haven’t done so, register to go.  Right now, we have about 6 members going and there is nothing wrong with having more. 2019 Conference Registration is open! Get your Call and Register now!

We also need members, who are so important to the running of our club and who can help with fulfilling the dreams of women and children.  Please come to our membership mixer on Monday, April 29 to learn more about us.  Bring a friend along as well.

Thanks for listening and thanks for your support!

Sheila Jefferson-Ross
President 2018-2019
