SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. (April 7, 2019) – Approximately 7,000 registered runners from age 12 to 78 took to the streets of San Francisco on Sunday to participate in the seventh running of the 2019 United Airlines Rock ‘n’ Roll Half Marathon San Francisco. With a renewed focus on the core pillars of Bringing Fun to the RunTM with great music in a community environment, runners of all athletic levels enjoyed taking in the sights of the Bay Area including crossing the iconic Golden Gate Bridge.

The best-in-class running event kicked off on Sunday when runners from 48 states and 44 countries, regions, and territories took off in the half marathon at the new start line next to Pier 35. The newly enhanced course took runners through the streets and neighborhoods of the city before a picturesque run over the Golden Gate Bridge and crossing the finish line next to Ghirardelli Square concluding their race in the heart of Fisherman’s Wharf.

Weston Strum, 27-year-old from (San Francisco, Cali.) broke the tape as the overall champion in a time of 1:10:38. Grant Johnson (San Francisco, Cali.) finished in second with a time of 1:15:52 as Benny Willers (Daly City, Cali.) rounded out the podium in third finishing in 1:16:46. 35-year-old Phebe Ko (Mill Valley, Cali.) was the women’s half marathon champion with a final time of 1:21:04. Elite runners and fast times aside, Sunday’s event was all about the race experience. Some of the best live bands from around the Bay Area, including Navy Band Southwest’s Destroyers, Super Cassette, and South 46 performed on improved band stages along the route, interspersed with cheerleaders and themed water stations.

The musically themed road race concluded with the sounds of local favorite Mustache Harbor, who created a soft rock explosion as the headliner for the Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon Concert Series, bringing runners and their families to their feet in celebration of the day’s accomplishments.
