Last Meeting 29th March
How I Made It
A Big Thank You to Ray Grover, Eric Davies, John Smith & Jack Heathcote for providing us with a very entertaining & thought provoking evening. It is amazing the lengths that people will go to to produce a sequence.
Ray showed us how he made the introductory sequence for the Fiesta.
To make the letters flip over he had to make a whole alphabet of half letters and numbers. Then using the animation features in PTE he was able to vary the rate at which they flipped. The careful adjustment of the timing & loudness of each click sound to coincide with the rotation of the letters. After many refinements it all looked very realistic.
He then went on to show his 'Who Am I?' sequence and how he used the Green Screen Effect & Modifiers in PTE to make the targets rise up and 'wobble' as they were shot at.
Next up was Eric, he explained how he was inspired to make 'Vanessa's Story' after a visit to a Butterfly farm.
Sending off for caterpillars and the correct food supplies for them, he watched and photographed them as they turned in chrysalis and then the Painted Lady Butterfly. However timing was crucial and he missed being able to photograph some of the stages. Another two sets of caterpillars later, lots of patience and close observation and he was rewarded with an excellent set of pictures with which to make his award winning sequence.
After the tea break, John showed how he made the introductory sequence for last year's Great Northern Festival. Many hours of work for only the showing at the Festival, he dicided to enter it into the Peter Coles IAC competition. Someone suggested that instead of the 'Space Ship' landing in Manchester he should change it to land in Snowdonia. Many more hours were spent in creating different pictures, video's and sound track to make it suitable. Instead of using real people to record the script, he had used an online 'Text to Speech' Program. This again took many hours to find the best 'voice' and careful choice of text and spelling to make it sound how he wanted.
Our final presenter of the evening was Jack. His sequence 'Smile' had originally been made in the days of slides and creating effects was a lot more difficult than today. He showed how he had created the effects and the ideas behind them to create the illustration of the poem. He then showed the digital version, which of course made us all smile!
A very interesting evening with lots of food for thought to inspire us.

Some club members do not travel to other events & competitions, so rarely see work outside of their own club. The idea of the exchange is to see work produced by different regions and to receive feedback. This is not a competition or to show new or the 'best' work from the club, but that from a range of members at all levels. It is more like a 'Members Sequence Evening' where the work is discussed & constructive comments made.
This way each Group will benefit from the comments & see a range of work at all levels from different areas.
