PJ Hirabayashi
We are so excited to announce our newest kaDON instructor: PJ Hirabayashi. PJ is a legend in the North American Taiko Community. She is the Artistic Director Emeritus, former Artistic Director, and founding member of San Jose Taiko (SJT), a world-class performing ensemble of taiko drummers. She is a pioneer of North American taiko, recognized for her distinctive performance and teaching style which combines movement, dance, drumming, fluidity, joy, and energy. In 2011, she and her husband Roy Hirabayashi were recognized as National Heritage Fellows, the highest honor in the folk and traditional arts in the United States.

PJ's current project is TaikoPeace, an extension of Karen Armstrong's Charter for Compassion. As a certified Peace Ambassador for the Shift Network's Summer of Peace 2012, PJ seeks to inspire personal, social, and global change through the music and art of taiko drumming.

Her artistry and her work in using the taiko to build connection and community has had a profound influence on the development of the taiko community. We are extremely humbled and excited to launch her first kaDON course today: Ei Ja Nai Ka!

We are also launching a mini-documentary that we put together to share more of PJ's story and philosophy. Please enjoy and share this with those who will be interested!

I'm very happy to have PJ join our roster of kaDON instructors. She has so much to offer and has been such an inspiration for many in the taiko community. HAPPY PRACTICING!
