CatCommittee Reaches Agreement on Proposed Rules

A federal negotiated rulemaking committee reached unanimous consensus on proposed rules that make changes to a wide range of higher education issues- including state authorization.

The proposal keeps the requirement that institutions must be authorized in a state in order to be eligible for federal Title IV financial aid funds. Reaching consensus is one step toward implementation, but it is not the final step. Next, the rules will be released for public comment. Then the Department of Education may revise the rules before publishing a final version.

It's About the Journey: Developing a State Authorization Policy

Did you know that Ohio State is a leader in implementing state authorization best practices? Few other institutions have successfully implemented a university-wide compliance policy.

Recently, WCET leaders asked us to share what we learned through the policy development process. Read what Associate Vice President Rob Griffiths and the state authorization team learned through the process of developing the Out-of-State Educational Activities Policy.

Thank you!  Reporting student placement data to NC-SARA is a university-wide effort. Thank you to all faculty and staff who contributed to the 2018 data review. 100% of units reviewed and returned placement data covering more than 1,300 out-of-state internships, clinicals and field experiences!

Your collaboration allows Ohio State to continue to participate in the State Authorization Reciprocity Agreement (SARA). SARA streamlines the process for Ohio State to offer online and on-ground educational activities in 49 participating states, D.C., Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Do you have a suggestion that will improve the data collection and review process? Email the state authorization team with your feedback.
