Volunteers needed for the 2019 K9 Karnival

The 2019 K9 Karnival will be on May 11th from 10am - 2pm (most volunteer spots also include some set-up time).  The day of the event we will hold a brief volunteer meeting at 9:30am to ensure everyone has the important details for the day before our guests arrive.  The event will be held at Josten Park again this year, and after the event feel free to stop in at the dog park and enjoy some time with your furry family members.  The rain date will be May 18th, same time, same place.  Notifications of changes to the event schedule will be posted on our Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/BellevueDogPark.

Congratulations Tim Hennig, GIS/IT Coordinator, for 10 Years of Service with the Village of Bellevue

Tim, Hennig, the Village's GIS/IT Manager, reached 10 years of service with the Village of Bellevue, on Saturday, April 6.  Tim started with the Village in 2009 as the GIS Coordinator and currently is the GIS/IT Manager.

Let's get to know Tim:

Where did you graduate?
I graduated from UW-Oshkosh.

What are your hobbies?
I enjoy the outdoors, photography, spending time with my family, travel, and I try to keep active.

Where did you previously work?
I worked for Brown County Planning and Land Service as a Transportation Planner/GIS Analyst for exactly six years.

What were some of the biggest changes that you have seen?
The biggest change I’ve seen is when we first implemented the GIS.  We had a lot of sporadic and questionable data, paper files, plans, and other documents that had to be manually retrieved.  Now a lot of that information is converted into a digital format, where staff can quickly retrieve information via computer and mobile device.
We have had a lot of advancements in how we operate using technologies and database systems to help staff and the public with accessing information, emergency response, engineering, utility services, community development, inspection, parks, public finance, and so on.

Do you see anything in the future regarding municipal technologies?
The biggest goal for our organization is retaining knowledge within and using software to help us do that.  I see more citizen engagement and we have some exciting technologies down the road that will help with that.  I also see smart cities becoming the future using Internet of Things (IoT).  Finally, data science is becoming a common term in the technology and GIS fields and making its way in the municipal world.  There is so much out there.

What do you like about your job?
First, I love working in the municipal setting.  I also love geography and GIS.  GIS is a subfield of geography that involves the utilization of various technologies. I enjoy keeping up to date with current and new technologies and finding ways that we can implement the technologies to become more efficient.  Finally, I have enjoyed working with the past and present people who I’ve worked for and with here at the Village. Everyone has had some or a lot influence regarding our technologies and data services.  It’s a great honor.

Tim, thank you for your continued service to Bellevue and congratulations on your 10 year work anniversary.  We are glad to have you as part of the team!
