Commissioned Portrait Specials for Mothers, Fathers and More

In everyone’s life is at least one special person who shared a love of animals, and in that person’s life there is often an animal companion who is or was very special to them. Mother’s Day is in May and Father’s Day in June. Portraits take up to four weeks to complete, especially with framing and then shipping, but you can also give a certificate and invite the recipient to choose their own portrait subject and provide photos and memories.

A Sweet Sale: "My First Drawing"

This 1987 pencil sketch is one of the originals I recently sold. “Sleeping Beauty” always hung over my desk until I took her down to Chartiers Custom Pet Cremation to hang in the living room for others to see at that important moment in their lives with their pets. I brought it back and took the sketch out of its frame and replaced the glass for a little chip in a corner, and rescanned the original to have a better final digital image than the one I had. Holding this sketch in my hand, looking at the details with no glass between us 32 years after I’d finished it, all the other art that came after this sketch, because of this sketch, was a very happy reunion. Latest Rescues

Smokey, the formerly feral "CVS cat" who could not be returned when trapped, has turned out to have a great personality and a lot of potential. He's gone from trap to crate to a home visit, and hopefully we'll be able to find a loving forever home for him. Read more about Smokey.

Cat Writers Association Awards

Results from judging the Cat Writers’ Association 2018 Communications Contest are in. Three paintings from 2018 have won Certificates of Excellence this year, two elective paintings and one commissioned portrait, in the category “Fine Art”.

The other certificates were for my Klepto Cat book cover illustrations from 2018 and for the Pittsburgh C.A.T. 2019 calendar, each of which has won a certificate in each of the three years I’ve entered them.

I am very honored and proud. All of these works are up for the next level award as well as special awards, but I won't know until June.

2019 Pittsburgh C.A.T. 2019 Calendar

In this calendar you’ll read about a couple dozen of those rescued cats who’ve come in with dire medical need from abuse or accidents, chronic or acute illnesses, and near starvation. Healing all those cats and kittens, feeding them and spaying and neutering, keeping up with vaccines and microchips, does not come cheap, but it’s the best way to rescue cats. Pittsburgh C.A.T. is not a 501c3 and can’t apply for grants, so sales of this calendar will help pay for lots of medical care. Help Pittsburgh C.A.T. finish off 2018 and get ready for 2019!
