GOOD NEWS

Wild Tribe

The Wild Tribe Programme was developed to take outdoor education further and link with key target areas within school. Bridging the gap between a child’s mental health and attainment, and developing better social and emotional skills which can increase personal attainment.
We are excited to be working in partnership with Wild Tribe, to become their hub for training and development for 2019. We will have a team of staff that can deliver across the City and Black Country to offer a quality assured package to all ConnectEd member schools of all phases. This will include staff training, assessment and support, with resources and schemes of work ready to use.

Our team of tutors will be up and running very soon and we will be back in touch in the Summer Term with how you can get involved.
If you want any more information, or to express your interest, then please contact sam.fullwood@connectedpartnership.com

Connected Partnership, Maternity  Paternity & Adoption Leave Pooling Scheme – End of year closure of accounts notice

The closing date for those schools who submit their payroll claims for the financial year 18/19 ending on 31 March 2019 (i.e. relating to claims up to 31 March 2019) is Friday 26 April 2019.
Late submissions will not be accepted.

Please also ensure you notify the scheme of resignations. Employees receiving occupational maternity pay (twelve weeks at half pay) are required to repay this money if they decide not to return to work.  Credits reimbursed to the school for non-returning maternity employees will be repayable to the pool. It is the responsibility of the Head teacher to notify the pool accordingly.   In this situation the scheme will invoice the school to recover the amount reimbursed for the employee concerned. Please also ensure you notify the scheme of any payroll overpayment credits so that they can be refunded to the scheme. This can happen sometimes towards the end of the employee’s leave when your payroll provider makes the final SMP credit adjustments.

It is vital that schools notify their payroll provider as soon as possible of intended leave, resignation and return to work dates.  Therefore, salaries are adjusted in a timely manner and correct reimbursements can be processed from the scheme to schools.

As part of the national launch on Monday 8 April, Secretary of State for Education, Damian Hinds MP, is calling on all state funded schools to sign up to the Teaching Vacancies service, to cut down on up to £75 million schools spend every year to advertise teaching jobs. Teaching Vacancies is now being used by over 40% of schools in England and over 5000 jobs have been listed since the launch, with these figures increasing every day. If your school does not have an account to list your jobs, details of how to apply for one are on the sign-in page.

PRIMARY ADMISSIONS – Numbers on roll
Primary colleagues will have received an email from Charlotte Bodley, Admissions and Appeals Officer this week. In the email it is explained that a new online spreadsheet is now available through CloudW for Primary schools to provide the Admissions Team with information regarding pupil numbers. If schools regularly update their information on the online spreadsheet the Admissions Team will be able to retrieve the most up to date figures and identify any pending allocations that schools are in the process of admitting.
Headteachers discussed the possibility of an online spreadsheet with Mr Kirby at a meeting of WHIPS in the Autumn term. While schools are not required to complete this new system a number of colleagues considered that it would assist with the exchange of real time data and minimise telephone contact with the Admissions Team.
In order to use this system you will need to email Charlotte advising her of your school name, the name of the user that will enter data onto the spreadsheet and the email address of the user.
For information on how to access and use the spreadsheet please click here.

Early Help Questionnaire
Thank you to all those colleagues that took the time to complete  the Early Help Questionnaire at the end of last year. The questionnaire enabled us to identify specific concerns and issues that colleagues were experiencing in relation to Early Help.
Earlier this year Kate Jackson, Chair of ConnectEd Partnership Board, met with the Director of Education and the Director of Children’s Services to provide feedback on the returns that had been received. The Director of Children’s Services, the Head of Service for Strengthening Families and the Head of Service for People (with responsibility for the MASH) attended a meeting of the Board on 3rd April 2019 to discuss some of the concerns raised and the processes they had implemented that would address a number of these. Directors were pleased to share that positive changes had already been noted in a number of areas in the City. The importance of clear communication between schools and the service areas was stressed and it was noted that a number of meetings would be arranged to facilitate this.

While we don’t like to bombard you with questionnaires, it is sometimes useful to gain an understanding of issues affecting all phases of schools across the City so that concerns can be identified and raised on behalf of member schools.

Local Professional Association Advice and Consultation (LPAAC)
Your Local Professional Association representatives continue to work with schools and provide support on a variety of issues including restructures, requests for flexible working, parental complaints, absence monitoring, working on support plans, capability and our key role of reviewing and developing locally agreed policies.
Schools in the City have benefitted from positive relationships with the Local Professional Associations over a number of years and we hope that this will continue into 2019/20.
We have worked hard to reduce the cost to schools this year and we hope that you will support the scheme and buy into the agreement this year and encourage you to contact your local representative if you have any questions or concerns.
