IMF cuts global growth outlook, but predicts pick up later in 2019
The outlook for global growth is at its lowest since the financial crisis, but expected to pick up in the second half of 2019, the International Monetary Fund reported on Tuesday, so long as “policy missteps that could harm economic activity” are avoided.
UN’s Grandi slams ‘toxic language of politics’ aimed at refugees, migrants
In a heartfelt briefing to the Security Council on Tuesday, Filippo Grandi, United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, has said that, during his three and a half decades as an international civil servant, he has “never seen such toxicity, such poisonous language in politics, media and social media,” directed towards refugees, migrants and foreigners.
UNIC Canberra Interview
As part of the 2019 International Year of Indigenous Languages UNIC Canberra is undertaking a series of audio interviews.

"International engagement around Indigenous issues is so absolutely critical "

"In 1788, before white settlement there was between two hundred and three hundred Indigenous languages spoken in Australia and close to 600 to 800 dialects within those languages. Jump ahead 230 years, and the situation is not quite so good, with very few of those languages spoken on about 120 in fact of those are spoken in the country and of those about 90 per cent of that 120 are considered at risk."

That is according to Mr Craig Ritchie Co-Chair, Steering Committee for the 2019 UNESCO International Year of Indigenous Languages and Chief Executive Officer of the Australian Institute of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies which is based in Canberra. We spoke with him last week.   Please note the interview then runs onto the next interview on our SoundCloud platform - this is an element of this software programme.
