Vatikaki 4X4 Adventure Club

What started as a family and friends group back in 2010, turned into a big friendship group of 4x4 enthusiasts who loves to go and explore by driving on or creating (responsibly) new roads.

Vatikaki is managed, promoted and driven by a group of volunteers who go out of their way to make our 4x4 club the best, most enjoyable and most fun family orientated 4x4 club for all our members. We rely solely on our own funds, our sponsors and your donations to keep Vatikaki going.

See our  events here. Anybody is welcome to share their 4x4 and camping adventure photos and stories on our Facebook group or send them to media@vatikaki4x4.co.za and we'll post them on our website.

Crew Focus

Vatikaki Founder : Reinard Visser

Reinard was born and raised in the Western Cape. According to some reliable sources; Reinard was the largest baby born at Louis Leipoldt in 1978; and weighed in at a hefty 7kg!

Reinard owns several vehicles but we're not sure if all of them runs... We do know the Cruiser, Supra and the Hilux and we know he dabbles in engine mechanics so let's see what else he can show us.

He also goes by the nickname "Pr@nkster" and we guess no one needs to question why.

Reinard co-founded Vatikaki and is actively involved in our Events, Marketing -and General Management of the Club.

He says that he 'sits quietly in the background and thinks of what sh#t he can cause next'!  But we all know that aint the case!

Reinard is married to Mariska and has 4 children. He loves braai's, 4X4, outdoors, camping, socializing getting dirty ED: ummm... Mariska??? and being with his friends and family. A real social creature.

No task is ever too difficult, too much effort or too tedious for Reinard and that's why we at Vatikaki love him so much!

By day he apparently sorts out his bosses' personal issues at a construction plant. He's also the owner of Africa Offroad and a keen contributor on our Facebook page and WhatsApp© chat group.

ED says: Reinard has a huge soft heart, nothing is ever too much to ask. He will always help where ever he can sometimes at his own expense without asking for anything in return - he's a true gentlemen & a GREAT friend!
Every month we will have a focus column on one of our Vatikaki Crew members. These articles are so that YOU can learn more about our Crew, what they do, who they are and more....

ED. They don't know who's being featured nor what will be said about them.. all they know us that none of their secrets as safe anymore. The advantages of being the editor is priceless!

See the official crew bio's here.

The Workshop

We found an interesting article online

"The 4WD vehicle you choose to build is directly related to the level of off-road capability you expect from it -- some platforms and components are simply better suited to the axle-twisting rigors of an off-road trail than others. But how extreme should you go? That depends on how street-worthy you need the vehicle to be. The taller and tougher the truck, generally, the worse it is to drive on pavement. But there are plenty of smart modifications you can make to ratchet up the capability of any 4x4. So let's hit the trail."

If you would like to contribute to a DIY/Project column that we can learn from, please contact the editor for more details.
In Memoria

It is with great sadness that we bid farewell to one of our beloved members, Johan Van Deventer who passed away on 7th April 2019.  Johan played an integral part in Vatikaki and was involved in many of our events. Our sincere condolences goes out to his close friends and family.

Rest In Peace Johan - You will be missed but never forgotten.

Letter from the editor...

Well, it has been a long time coming and with the Crew - especially the one with the “#” in his name breathing down my neck constantly (and despite the fact that YES, I do have a full time day job), I have decided to somewhat secretly write a quick newsletter to test the 'oil temperature' of our members. Your thoughts?

I trust that you found the content interesting and informative, that I invoked a chuckle here and there and that you will remain subscribed to The Operators Manual for the issues to follow.

I hate spam as much as the next person and promise to keep these newsletters to the minimum and only with relevant content. To the sponsors and advertisers; “this is ours and not a marketing platform”. We will feature short inserts of our sponsors but such is done at our own discretion and can't be bought.

If you enjoyed your read, I urge you to please send me some content; pictures, video’s, stories and  especially jokes. I’ll also take the more serious stuff. Also remember to post your events so that we are all aware of what's happening when and where.

Here’s to the start of a fun and informative newsletter that we all can enjoy!

Yours in 4x4!

ED.
