With a new project aimed at supporting local populations, WWF makes its comeback to Kongo Central Province.
On March 19, at the Luki Biosphere Reserve in Kongo Central province (formerly Bas Congo), the WWF and ERAIFT (Postgraduate School for Regional Planning and Integrated Management of Forests and Tropical Territories) launched the project “Reinforcing local communities in Luki and Mai-Ndombe resilience to climate change”. The Euro-pean Union funded project will be mainly implemented in Luki and on a slightly smaller scale in Mai Ndombe Province. Read more
WWF celebrated the International Day of Forests 2019 with people with disabilities.
To celebrate the International Day of Forests decreed by the General Assembly of the United Nations on March 21st of each year, WWF-RDC/Goma office in partnership with people with disabilities and young scouts of Goma, organized weeding activities at the green triangle in front of North Kivu governor’s Office, educational, sports and recreational activities under the slogan "Plant trees without discrimination’’. DRC is working to set up a national sustainable palm oil platform
The city of Kinshasa hosted in the second half of March the first consultation meeting between the National Sustainable Palm Oil Platform and the International Tropical Forest Alliance Initiative (TFA 2020), facilitated by WWF-DRC.
Indeed, the DRC is working to set up a platform, a multi-stakeholders entity to sup-port the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Livestock to scale the national princi-ples for palm oil production as part of the Palm Oil Initiative in Africa. Read more
Forests: Tshuapa & Tshopo provinces’ Forest Advisory Councils are operational.
In the Democratic Republic of Congo, the provinces of Tshuapa and Tshopo now have their Forest Advisory Councils . The installation of this multi-stakeholders technical body in both provinces has been supported by WWF-DRC forest governance program, funded by NORAD - the Norwegian Fund
