Thank a Donor/Volunteer

Janet is another behind the scene servant at The Refuge. She has been a vital part of our kitchen crew. Not only is she great at cooking up some great meals, but is great at clean up. This is a great compliment to other kitchen folk who like to make messes :)

We are so thankful for the kind and patient heart Janet has. She connects so well with the kids.

If you want to contribute in someway to The Refuge, email us or check out our online donation page.

Still Looking for a Van!

  • Would you pray about The Refuge getting a van to transport kids? The van would be used to transport kids to church on Sundays and take kids to events and special trips.
Art Instructor
We are looking for more help in the art room.
The goal is to have the art room open every week on Tuesday. We need more help to meet this goal.

Wood Shop!

The wood shop is exploding with activity.
We were able to purchase jointer at a very reasonable price.
Things are now ready for action. Student projects are about to start.
We will be having 2-3 students working down in the wood shop at a time.
Chris Raker has joined our team, and is helping Wayne run this program.
It is great to have these two men leading another generation of wood workers.

Discussion Groups

Since the beginning of the year, the staff at The Refuge has been making a point to be more bold in proclaiming truth. Each week we have been having separate guys and girls discussion sessions. Right after dinner we meet with the kids to discuss relevant topics concerning life, God, culture, and more.

For the guy discussions we have focused on topics like respect, sin (we used the 3 circles graphic to talk about the Gospel), relationship, and more. Many of the guys have engaged in these conversations and have opened up about struggles. A few guys have opened up to share advice to their peers. It has been a great time to share about God's love and what He did for us.

The girl discussions have been incredible. The staff at The Refuge have created and planned a lot of meaningful activities and discussions for the girls. To highlight a few of the talks...
One week the topic was friendships and how to be a good friend and find good friends. The girls shared very openly about some of their friendships.
Another time the topic was choosing kindness. At the end of the talks the girls are often presented with an item of action. That week they were to focus on choosing to be kind, even in the face of adversity.
A great activity was the week each girl received a list of compliments on a paper from all the other girls in the room. It was great to see kindness and thinking of other put into practice.
This past week was an egg painting activity paired with the real meaning of Easter.

Continue to pray that God would give us open doors. He has been so faithful!
Help Stock Our Pantry
One of the most visited and used components of The Refuge is our pantry. The pantry is used as a reward system for the kids.
They can earn points for doing their homework, bringing friends, and doing work in the building.
The point are then spent on food, hygiene, school supplies, and other items.

We are looking for regular supplies to keep our pantry stocked. Maybe your church or buisness could collect some things for us on a monthly basis?
PROJECTS
We are looking for smalls teams to complete some projects with the building:
  • Finish air stone veneer project in 2nd floor computer lab and 3rd floor studio.
  • Enclose basement breezeway to expand wood shop storage
  • Sand and repaint stairway to 2nd floor.
  • Spring Clean the building and property
Reminder:
We are always looking for help with our kitchen. Food prep and donations.
Be sure to follow @sunburyrefuge on Instagram and Facebook. We have lots of photo updates there.
