City Celebrates 2nd Anniversary with #SouthFultonSummer

Monday, May 1 — Today marks the 2nd Anniversary of Georgia's largest new city, Atlanta's new twin city — South Fulton, Georgia. Old National Councilman khalid is partnering with Old National Entertainment on a series of Summer Events to promote awareness of the new city, as well as a greater sense of community.

After an incredibly successful 2nd Annual Spring Egg-Stravaganza, #SouthFultonSummer 2019 continues with a First Fridays Outdoor Film Series featuring Black Cinema classics. Arrive at 7PM to enjoy live music, food trucks, and conversation before the film begins at Sundown.

The series starts with a family-friendly movie in May, while the June through August films feature more adult themes.

Each 1st Friday begins with Live Music at 7PM, followed by a short Community Forum about the issues explored in each film. Movies begin at Sundown.

Grammy-winning Byron Henry Rose takes the #SouthFultonSummer Stage at 7PM

Byron Henry Rose is a multi-platinum selling, multi-instrument singer/songwriter who has produced several Grammy-winning artists including Kelly Price, Darwin Hobbs and Eric Clapton. His debut CD, The Late Bloomer, will be out later this year. This Friday he will perform classics from the 80s & 90s and be joined by special guest.

#BlackLivesMatter in South Fulton

Councilman khalid, America's first #BlackLivesMatter organizer elected to public office, will hold a special screening & panel discussion of Whose Streets? This 2017 documentary chronicles the murder of Mike Brown in Ferguson, Missouri and the community organizing that followed. A live panel will feature #BlackLivesMatter activists from Ferguson & Atlanta, as well as officials from the South Fulton Police Department (SFPD).

Education is the Way Out Back-2-School Block Party

Fulton County Schools First Day of School for the 2019-2020 year is August 12, 2019. Our 1st Friday's finale is Councilman khalid's Back-2-School Block Party & Bookbag Giveaway! We will also be celebrating the 18th Anniversary of the debut of John Singleton's groundbreaking film. Singleton, the youngest person & first African-American nominated for the Oscar for Best Director, passed this April after suffering a stroke.

Old National area Principals, Guidance Counselors & Community Liaisons will discuss what to do to get your child ready to go back to school; and a panel of community activists featuring Next Level Boys Academy's Gary Davis & Transforming Youth's Chris Bazemore will discuss warning signs & intervention techniques in dealing with today's troubled youth.
