A couple of weeks ago we were having a bit of a gloomy day. The kids were a little cranky (or maybe that was just me) and outside it was rainy and cool. We were feeling cooped up, so once I thought the rain was over, I shooed everyone out the door to go for a walk to clear our heads. As the kids ran ahead of me on the slopes behind our house, they got completely swept away in the joy of picking the wild sunflowers that grow freely there! The rain began to fall again, but no one even noticed or cared because of the fun they were having. As we walked back to the house, arms full of flowers and faces full of smiles, a rainbow broke out in the sky above us. This little scene put a smile on my face and joy in my heart because it reminded me that along with spring comes new life and new hope.
Another season at the farm is upon us and there is new life everywhere! The trees are shooting out leaves and the fruit trees are preparing to burst into blossom. The wildflowers are in full bloom and the vegetable plants that we started from seed in the greenhouse are growing strong and tall. With each new life comes new hopes and dreams: the anticipation of biting into that first strawberry of the season, the hope of a great crop of juicy tomatoes, the dream of filling bin after bin with bright red apples. But for now, I will just enjoy being suspended between winter and summer, taking time to smell each flower as it raises up from the grave of the soil.
This year we are inviting you, our newsletter followers, to a special “Sneak-Peek” party on the night before we open. This inaugural event will take place on Tuesday, April 30th from 5:00-7:00 pm. Come meet the three generations of Davison Farmers who you often don’t see because of the long hours they put in the fields. They will be happy to update you on what’s happening on our farm as well as any other farming questions you may have. Many of the other family members will be there, as well as staff and other managers. You will get the first look at Tamra’s beautiful Gift Shop where there will also be some savoury treats to sample. In the newly updated Farmhouse Café, there will be coffee and cookies. We would be honored to show you behind the scenes in our Bakery, Café and Cannery, as well as the Greenhouse and the Animal Barn.
Come and help us celebrate our 86th year of farming and the opening of our Market and Café for a new season. Drop in anytime between 5:00 and 7:00 pm and we will be happy to show you around. Thank you for your support of our farm and family business.
