Fort Delaware is Open for the Season!

Fort Delaware served as a Civil War prison which held close to 33,000 Confederate POWs during the Civil War. Today, costumed interpreters take you back to the summer of 1864. Tour the parade ground, officers’ quarters, barracks, kitchen, blacksmith shop and ordnance room! Fort Delaware is officially open for the 2019 season, so plan your visit today!

Guided Tours

5th Annual Kids Catch All Tournament! 

Are your kids getting too much screen time and not enough marine time? The Indian River Marina (IRM)  invites all beginner-advanced anglers from ages 3 through 18 to participate in the 5th Annual Kids Catch All Fishing Tournament on June 21-23, 2019! Cast your lines from the shore, boat, or headboat, or book a vessel from IRM’s charter fleet to head out to deeper waters. Every participant will receive a prize! Each entry fee includes a t-shirt, free gift, two nights of dinner, raffles, and family fun. The tournament is a great event for a great cause. Each family’s participation helps raise money for the Lyme Disease Association of Delmarva, and last year the event raised over $10,000! Learn more »

Urban Wildlife Monitoring of Delaware!

Did you know Delaware has a population of coyotes? The Brandywine Zoo is studying medium-sized mammals, like otters and bobcats, in the Delaware Carnivore Ecology Project, which is one part of the greater Urban Wildlife Monitoring Project (UWMP). The studies done under the UWMP will allow our researchers to better understand mammalian ecology, dispersal, and diversity across New Castle County. Learn more  about this research project»

Sign Up for Summer Camps!

With the end of the school year in sight, now is the time to sign kids up for Delaware State Parks summer camps! Through half-day, full-day or overnight camps, children ages four to seventeen will gain hands-on experience in rock climbing, hiking, survival skills, natural science, animal care, and more! Teens can earn service hours and even gain leadership skills through the Counselor In Training (CIT) program.
