Only One Week to go until the Meet!

It is only one week to go until the 4th annual Railway Modellers Meet of BC at Simon Fraser University's Burnaby Campus!  From the keynote address by Lance Mindheim (and two of his clinics) to operating sessions, layout tours, displays and more clinics, there is something for everyone at this year's RMMBC.

No Host Dining Opportunities

We've added no host dining locations on Friday and Saturday as part of the Meet.  On May 3rd we have space at Ricky's All Day Grill located at 8958 - 152 Street in Surrey starting at 4:45pm.  You can grab something to eat and pick up your registration package prior to heading out on the layout tour Friday evening.

On Saturday May 4th we have space reserved in the SFU dining hall, just steps away from the meet.  The reserved area is available from 1:00pm to 2:30pm and from 4:45pm to 7:30pm that evening, prior to the Saturday night operating sessions.  Take advantage of these opportunities to meet and talk with other modellers over a tasty meal.

Manufacturer Displays

Another new addition to the meet are displays by model manufacturers as part of the meet.  We have a number of manufacturers who will have commercial displays as part of the meet.  Stop by to look at their products, ask questions and perhaps give them a nudge to produce that special item that you simply have to have on your layout or to help you enhance your hobby experience.  This is a great opportunity to have some face to face time with some of the people who are doing some great things for the hobby.

Layout Tours

Brian Clogg's BC Rail Squamish Subdivision

This year's layout tour covers layouts in the Surrey and Langley area of the lower mainland.  Layouts include HO, O and G Scale offerings.  Several of these layouts have not been on tour before, or have not been on a tour in several years.  Be sure to take in all the layouts after you pick up your registration and have a meal at Ricky's All Day Grill in Surrey.

Clinics

Don't miss your chance to see top notch presentations by Geoff Bunza, Mike Pagano, Lance Mindheim, Mark Dance and many others on a myriad of topics.  From using photos for buildings and backdrops to kitbashing, barge operations to using arduinos, there is a clinic that is sure to be of interest to all meet registrants.  The schedule is <here> and the clinic list is <here>.  A selection of clinics will be presented twice to allow attendees to see as many clinics as possible.  This allows you flexibility in planning your meet.

Display and Meet the Modeller

As outlined in the previous newsletter, the heart of the meet is the Display Room.  Bring your models, photos, electronic projects, plans and anything that is of interest to your hobby to the meet.  Everyone is invited to bring at least one model (or 10!) and photo to show in the Display Room.  This is a great opportunity to show other attendees what you  have been up to, and it is a great place to learn a new technique or approach to the hobby.  Be sure to be a part of it!

Operating Sessions

The operating sessions are an always popular part of the meet.  The operating sessions are being held Friday and Saturday, and are fully booked.  If you have an interest in operations but missed this chance, contact the operating session coordinator.  If a last minute spot opens up you may be able to participate.  This part of the meet fills up quickly, so register early next year to ensure you get a spot in 2020!

It's Almost Here!

We're only a few days from the 4th annual RMMBC.  There is still time to register, and you can even register in person at the meet if you can't do it beforehand.  Don't miss the camaraderie, fellowship and fun that are always at the Railway Modellers Meet.  We'll see you there!  Bring a friend!
