May 2019 Newsletter

From Mr. Phillips, Head of School

It’s hard to believe May is already here and another school year will be over soon. It seems like yesterday that my family arrived at Curtis to begin our new journey. The second half of the school year has been fantastic, and we have been spending a lot of time planning for the 2019-20 school year. We had several faculty positions that we needed to fill, and I’m excited that God has sent us exactly who He wanted to fill those positions.

We are excited to introduce our Curtis Family to our new Elementary Principal, Mrs. Lisa Ingle. Mrs. Ingle will also be teaching our high school Spanish classes and will be coaching volleyball.

Other positions that we have filled to this point are:

K5 – 12 PE – Mrs. Shelley Glass. Mrs. Glass has been working in our preschool and has been the Assistant Girls Basketball Coach.

High School Math – Mrs. Katie Holland. Mrs. Holland is a graduate of Curtis Baptist School and has a degree in Mathematics from Augusta State University.

6th Grade Teacher / Middle and High School Art – Ms. Lydia Ulrich.  Ms. Ulrich is also a graduate of Curtis Baptist School and received her Education degree from Truett-McConnell University.

God has blessed Curtis by sending us some great leaders and teachers. It's always good to see former students come back to where they attended school to teach and invest in students.  The future for Curtis is bright, and I would ask that you continue to pray for the leadership team and the faculty and staff as we strive to do our best to educate and inspire our students.

- Mr. Scott Phillips, Head of School

Daycare & Preschool News

The countdown is on and we are officially in our last month of the school year.  Although we will continue learning in the summer months, there will be a lot more play involved!  Our teachers are planning some fun activities for our students over the summer.  Please help us by sending students in comfortable play clothes.  In addition, shoes/sandals should be closed toed or cover the toes. Don’t forget to change out their extra set of clothes for more warm-weather ones. As our school year comes to an end, we want to THANK YOU. Thank you for continuing to let us be a part of your child’s most important years of life! Thank you for supporting us throughout the year with donations, and assistance, and kind words. Thank you for letting us share with them the love of Jesus. It is such a blessing to do what we do!

Elementary School News

Please take a few minutes to watch this video and meet Mrs. Ingle, our new Elementary Principal.

After reflecting on our Spring Break, I was reminded of this verse in Acts 3: “Therefore repent and return, so that your sins may be wiped away, in order that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord”. This one phrase “times of refreshing” sounds so desirable, does it not? Isn’t this why many of us plan vacations near and far, in hopes that time away from the monotonous routine of life will refresh our weary souls? Yet according to this verse, true “times of refreshing” come “from the presence of the Lord” after we have walked through Biblical repentance. A relationship restored brings a peace that surpasses all understanding (Phil. 4), giving us calm in the midst of any storm. As you return to your norm, whatever that may look like, I pray that each of you will be able to experience true “times of refreshing” from our precious Savior.

Jefferson Energy Co-Op from Wrens, GA, recently visited our Elementary School. Quincy and Ronald, two JEC linemen, came to Curtis with an electrical safety demonstration trailer. They gave us hands-on experience with their safety equipment – fire-rated clothing, rubber gloves, and special rubber sleeves, which they are required to wear before they begin working on electrical lines. They discussed many reasons we have power outages and answered questions from the students. While safety was a large part of our conversation, the upper grades also discussed the different types of materials that make good insulators and conductors - connecting STEM into our daily experiences! The demonstration ended with the kids witnessing electrical arcs formed when Mr. Ronald used his safety rod to ground out an electrical wire. If you haven’t seen pictures of our electrical safety demonstration, please check out the CBS Facebook page and feel free to SHARE it with your friends!

Middle & High School News

The last month of a school year is filled with excitement and anticipation. Students are finishing up the last papers and projects while teachers are preparing exams.  On the administrative side, MS/HS Awards Day and Graduation plans are taking shape.

For the faculty and staff this time of year is special because it gives us the opportunity to acknowledge our students who have worked so diligently and have shown great character in deportment throughout the school year. We are proud of each of our students as they continue to mature spiritually, academically, and socially.

Continue to pray for us as we close out the 2018-2019 school year to the glory of the Lord.

- Mr. Larry Ford, Middle and High School Principal
