Woolly News - April 2019

Hello fellow needle felters! Is Spring ever going to stick around? Well, it is April and we all know that it’s an iffy month for weather. Rain, warm one day – cold the next, and dare I say it…snow? At least we have needle felting to pass the time while waiting for the beautiful 20+ temperatures that Spring promises. I did see crocuses in full bloom last week and daffodils are flowering! Hooray!

Lots on the go for May! I’ve got some awesome workshops coming up. Needle felt a Garden Gnome, which is a great project to take your felting to the next level. I have another workshop at the fibre farm – Felted Jewelry! We will be needle and wet felting wool from Lickety Spit Fibre Farm to make bracelets and balls for earrings, necklaces - whatever your heart desires. And for those who missed the one in March, I have another Flying Bluebird workshop at the end of May. After May, my teaching schedule slows down to a crawl as I get ready for Fall. Yes, I will be making Christmas ornaments in July. Such is the life of a crafter…

Make sure to read about all the fun stuff happening in my woolly universe. Thank you for being fans of the funtastic world of fibre art.

NEEDLE FELT TIP OF THE MONTH

Adding Eyes To Your Needle Felt Project

To make the eyes, you must have 2 even pieces of black wool. On your mat, roll each piece into a ball and then roll into your fingers or hand to make it round. When you get 2 even shapes, using the 38-spiral needle, stab each one into the face shape above the nose where you desire. I use the sweep and tuck technique where I sweep the little loose fibres and stab (tuck) into the main eye shape. This will keep the edges even. To add the white eye shine, grab a pinch of the core wool, split it in half, and roll in your fingers until you get a rounder shape. Then stab one each into the black eye shapes.
