Downtown visitors, residents, and workers should be aware of road closures that begin on Friday, May 3 starting at 12:00 p.m. and continue through the weekend. Visit the official event website for details on getting around town, drivers' & cyclists' guides, and parking information

Our friends at NEXTPittsburgh have a guide on how you can join the fun of Marathon weekend, even if you're not running the 26.2 miles.

JOIN THE CELEBRATION AT CULTURED COCKTAILS

"Every drink has a story" is the philosophy behind the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust’s Second Annual Cultured Cocktails event on Saturday, May 4 at the Benedum Center. Guests are invited to walk through time, exploring the unique histories behind their favorite drinks and spirits.

Acclaimed mixologists Mikey Mills and Stevie P of Liquid Flair, along with local bartenders, will mix, shake, and stir signature cocktails, paired with food from some of the most exclusive restaurants in Pittsburgh including Braddock’s Rebellion, Bridges & Bourbon, Burn by Rocky Patel, The Capital Grille, The Commoner, and more.

Miss Thea Trix will host a pop-up Drag Queen photo booth with costume items from Eons Fashion Antique, and Pittsburgh native Mia Z will also provide live music throughout the night. Learn more.
INDECENT AT THE PITTSBURGH PUBLIC THEATER

Brilliant stagecraft and a live Klezmer band enliven this true story of a Jewish playwright and his resilient acting troupe. On stage now through May 19, Pittsburgh Public Theater's Indecent features an ensemble of 10 actors and musicians telling the story of the 1923 controversial performance of God of Vengeance.

With direction from Carnegie Mellon University's Risa Brainin, music directed by Emmy- and Grammy-winner John McDaniel, and more, the show shows the impact that this revolutionary play has on its stage manager, acting troupe, and the audiences who witness it. Buy tickets.

Each week we compile a list of places where you can catch some live music in support of our Downtown Sound Initiative. Learn more about the project here.

Coneman Tip of the Week: Commuter Challenge

With the slogan “join our friendly challenge and own your commute,” the Southwestern Pennsylvania Commission’s CommuteInfo Program is holding a Commuter Challenge during the week of May 13-19 (follow the link for more information on registering, rules, helpful tips, and the list of prizes), in celebration of May being Commute Options Awareness Month.

With around 77.5 percent of residents across the Pittsburgh 10-county region commuting by driving alone, this is a great opportunity for you and your family to ditch your car for a week and give another commuting mode a shot. In addition to decreasing your carbon footprint and saving money (did you know the average cost of owning and maintaining a vehicle is $8,500-11,500?!), you can also potentially win prizes through a random drawing, including Pirates tickets, a family pass for the Carnegie Museums of Pittsburgh, a bike from Sweetwater Bicycle Shop, or a Fitbit Versa Smartwatch. Eligible commuting options are taking public transit (hint: see this map for identifying your transit operator and this map for finding the nearest regional park and ride facility), vanpooling, carpooling, biking, or walking.

Make sure to register by midnight on May 12 to qualify for the random prize drawing!
