Beer Season.
So much is happening in the World of Utah Beer. It's definitely an exciting time to be a beer drinker in the Beehive.
Since our last dispatch:
- Two new breweries opened their doors. Level Crossing Brewing Company in South Salt Lake and UTOG Brewing Co. in Ogden began pouring at the end of March.
- Craft by Proper, labeled "Utah's only Utah-only beer bar," opened on April 19.
- Park City Brewery closed its taproom but expects to open again in Park City in the future. In the meantime, according to a Facebook post, it plans to share space with Shades Brewing in South Salt Lake. I've talked to owners of both breweries and as things solidify, I'll share more details about some intriguing developments.
- And on a personal note, we've added more than 100 subscribers to the Utah Beer News E-Newsletter in the last month! Thank you and welcome to the new subscribers (if you're interested, here's our e-newsletter archives).
'Tis the Season
If that's not enough, we're entering what I believe is the start of Beer Season. That is, late-spring through fall in which brewery patios are buzzing and a beer event (or three) seems to be happening each weekend.
The unofficial kickoff to Utah's Beer Season might be the first weekend in May. That's when the 10th Annual Tour de Brewtah (May 4) and the 5th Annual Lagerpalooza (May 5) take place. Keep an eye on UtahBeerNews.com. We'll have more on those events as they draw closer.
After that, American Craft Beer Week (May 13-19) takes center stage and launches us into a summer full of festivals. And who knows? We might just see another local brewery or two open its doors during that time as well.
I know I say this a lot, but it's an incredible time to be a craft beer drinker in Utah.
Currently Drinking: As I write, I'm sipping a SaltFire Brewing IPA aged in Beehive Distilling gin barrels. It's part of the year-old brewery's Limited Edition Series and it is mighty tasty. What are you drinking?
