Dance on the Edge

When: 5pm and 8pm Saturday 4 May, and 2pm Sunday 5 May
Where: Belconnen Arts Centre
Cost: $30, $20 (concession)

Join Ausdance ACT to celebrate Dance Week. Dance on the Edge will be a highlight of the live performance program with specially commissioned dancers from the ACT and region in a program that is sure to be compelling, courageous and a bit contentious! Arboretum /  The Map Shop

When: 2-12 May 2019
Where: Canberra Contemporary Art Space, Manuka

Tom Campbell / Kute Bash presents an investigation into critical ideas of place through textiles, objects and documentation. The works included in Arboretum / The Map Shop are designed to encourage multiple readings of place and location. Objects can become sites for inviting questions rather than asserting a universal answer. Come see several textile constructions, text-based works, and leave your feedback in the visitor’s book.

Reclaimed Vintage

When:  Various dates throughout May 2019
Where: Tuggeranong Arts Centre
Cost:  free

Reclaimed Vintage is a participatory arts project for senior Canberrans. Through a series of workshops with professional artists, participants will create new artworks to be shown in a public exhibition which reclaim ageist language and challenge stereotypes. The artworks will also be used in a social media awareness campaign with skills training provided by Instagrammers Canberra (@igerscanberra).

Pop-Up Arts Activity in Woden

When:  9 - 3pm, 1-3 May 2019
Where: Woden Town Centre
Cost:  free

The Woden Experiment will be home to an interactive artist’s residency – the first in a series of programs. This residency will see Pod 2 of the Woden Experiment taken over by local artist Brian McNamara, and for three days will serve as his studio where he will create and display new work, and will be available to the public to discuss and demonstrate the operation of his interactive pieces. Dark Matter Darkroom Residency Applications Extended
PhotoAccess invites artists at all stages of their careers to apply for our Dark Matter Darkroom residency. This residency is open to all forms of darkroom-based and or alternative process image making.  Applications are now due, Wednesday 7 May 2019. 'Berder. Gaba. Urrknga. Wantja.' exhibition at the Nishi Gallery
This Ceramics exhibition tells the stories of eight artists from remote Indigenous communities around Australia.  The works are the result of a new residency program at The Australian National University (ANU) and are on display as part of the 'Berder. Gaba. Urrknga. Wantja.' exhibition at the Nishi Gallery, New Acton
The title of the exhibition uses the closest word for ‘clay’ from each community.
The exhibition is now open and will run through to Saturday 1 June 2018

MASTER IT -  Music Theatre Workshop at The Street
The Street’s ongoing program, 'Master It', brings New York-based composer, music director, educator and publisher David Sisco to Canberra. With a focus on new music theatre writing from around the globe, Music Theatre Start Up has two streams to the workshop: performer and creative. This is a partially subsidised program and participants will be selected through an application process.

Workshops at Belconnen Arts Centre - Term 2
Enrollments are now live. Classes include; Drypoint Etching, Life Drawing, Watercolour and more, along with out classic kids classes. Both Kids and Adult workshops fill up fast!  Spaces are limited, so head over to the Belconnen Arts Centre website for information on Adult workshops and Kids workshops and to enroll.

Floor Talk - Cupped Hands at Craft ACT: Craft + Design Centre
Join artists Simon and Vicky Shukuroglou as they share their experiences as the 2018 Craft ACT artists-in-residence and discuss the resulting body of work. The exhibition, Cupped Hands is a result of their residency at the Australian National Botanic Gardens and Ready-Cut Cottage in Namadgi National Park.

Canberra Youth Theatre Technical Theatre Team - a practical exploration of lighting, sound and stage management course. The Technical Theatre Team will learn how to run a theatrical production: design, rig and focus lights; set-up and run sound equipment; create digital soundscapes; and stage manage, and calling the cues for a show.
